Summary of Job Description:

The Senior Workplace Counsel manages, advises, and reviews all administrative charges or complaints from state and federal agencies.This position conducts legal research and analyses and prepares responses to administrative claims.The Senior Workplace Counsel prepares curriculum on workplace issues and provides training for Human Resources and Operations to ensure legal compliance and best employment practices.The Senior Workplace Counsel oversees, mentors, and trains less experienced Workplace Counsel and manages outside counsel and consultants on employment litigation matters.

You'll get a chance to:

  • Manage, advise, and review all administrative charges or complaints from state and federal agencies, including the EEOC, California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, and Department of Labor.
  • Conduct legal research and analyses, and prepares responses to administrative claims.
  • Monitor the status of open administrative claims and charges.
  • Prepare curriculum on workplace issues and provides training for Human Resources and Operations to ensure legal compliance and best employment practices.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis of employment laws and regulations for senior leadership, HR, and Operations to provide guidance and to achieve compliance balanced with business needs.
  • Help develop policies and procedures that reflect best practices.
  • Work with other departments and Operations to create effective solutions to workplace issues.
  • Develop workplace policies and procedures consistent with current laws and regulations governing the workplace.
  • Manage outside counsel and consultants on employment litigation matters.
  • Oversee, mentor, and train less experienced Workforce Counsel and paralegals.
  • Support HR and Operations in achieving compliance with state and local employment laws.

Your background and experience:

  • JD degree and licensed to practice law
  • Minimum ten years of relevant experience; successful completion of multi-week store training
  • Successful completion of initial and periodically required trainings.
  • Obtaining a valid Food Handler's Card within 30 days of employment is a requirement of this position.

ADA Statement:

While performing duties, counter areas are often hot with steam from steam table and food vapors. Workspace is restricted and employees are generally expected to remain standing for long periods of time. Employees must prepare hot and cold foods, use Chinese cook knife and other kitchen equipment and work quickly without losing accuracy. Employees must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand up to four hours and reach across counter tops measured at 36 inches to serve customers. Kitchens are hot and noise levels are usually high; storage space is limited and shelving is high. Employees must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment, have effective verbal communication skills, ability to adapt to a dynamic environment with changing priorities, and the ability to manage conflicts/difficult situations.
