Technician II or Senior Technician - EV Battery System Test

Advanced Engineering Lab. (AEL) is an engineering group at HATCI that focuses on advanced technology research and development that can be applied to current/future production vehicles and future mobility. AEL covers a wide range of areas from the development of new vehicle concepts to CAE and vehicle energy analysis and management.

The Position

HATCI is currently seeking a Technician II or Senior Technician - EV Battery System Test for our Superior Township, MI facility (near Ann Arbor). The BSD is an Engineering Department within AEL, which was established to undertake projects related to EV high voltage Battery system testing. This position reports to Manager of BSD.

Core responsibilities



  • Perform maintenance & repair on electric vehicles





  • Identify problems with diagnostic equipment (Hyundai / KIA GDS is a plus)





  • Work with engineers and assist in vehicle tasks: parts swap, test evaluation, etc.





  • Construction of test harnesses and application to vehicle systems





  • Application of test equipment and instrumentation to EV high voltage battery systems in a vehicle in a safe manner





  • Move high voltage batteries using forklift or other support equipment in and out of test chambers and apply connections to test equipment





  • Maintain shop cleanliness





  • Adhere to safety protocols to ensure a hazard-free working environment.





  • Follow all state and federal regulations related to automotive repairs.





  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.





  • Order parts and maintain an accurate inventory of supplies.





  • Conduct post-repair testing to ensure vehicles are operating as expected.





  • Ensure all work meets or exceeds manufacturer and industry standards.





  • Mentor junior technicians in team procedures and general operations as necessary



Basic Qualifications



  • Completion of high school level and or GED





  • Graduated from an associate degree program in automotive repair





  • Minimum of 2 years as an Automotive Technician





  • Read; interpret/transcribe data in order to maintain accurate records





  • High level of professionalism with a commitment to customer satisfaction





  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills





  • ASE certification is a plus





  • Forklift certificate is a plus, but not required (Forklift training may be provided).

  • Ability to bend at the waist, sitting, kneeling, laying horizontally, climbing and walking, etc., as the job may require





  • Ability to stand, walk, moderately to heaving lifting is required, max 51 pounds.





  • Ability to push a minimum of 100 pounds





  • Comfortable working in a technical facility / warehouse environment with varying temperatures and conditions.





  • Emergency Response: Availability for urgent system issues that might require on-site presence at non-standard hours or locations, although this is generally infrequent.



Minimal Travel: The role generally requires minimal travel as most tasks are performed on-site. Travel may be required for training, conferences, or visits to remote workshop or offices.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or other related fields





  • Experience with energy storage system and test equipment, test processes, and system design processes.





  • Experience with automotive wiring harnesses and battery systems
