THE JOB: This Culinary Internship Program offers hands-on experience in a dynamic kitchen environment, where interns will rotate through different stations, assist with food preparation, learn culinary techniques, and contribute to the success of meal service. Throughout the program, interns will receive mentorship from experienced chefs and gain exposure to various aspects of the culinary industry, helping them to develop valuable skills and advance their culinary careers. THE DAY-TO-DAY:
- Orientation and Training: Interns will start each day with an orientation and training session, familiarizing themselves with the kitchen layout, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Preparation and Production: Interns will assist with preparation tasks, such as chopping vegetables, fabricating meats, and making mise en place for various menu items. They will participate in production activities, including cooking starches, vegetables, and proteins, ensuring that they are cooked to perfection.
- Rotation Through Kitchen Stations: Interns will rotate through different kitchen stations, such as banquet, commissary, main kitchen, and garde manger, gaining exposure to various aspects of culinary operations. They will learn the specific responsibilities and techniques required for each station, contributing to the overall efficiency of the kitchen.
- Service and Plating: During meal service, interns will assist with plating dishes, ensuring that they are presented beautifully and according to established standards. They will learn how to work efficiently under pressure, coordinating with other kitchen staff to ensure that orders are completed and delivered to guests in a timely manner.
- Learning and Development: Throughout the day, interns will have opportunities for learning and development, receiving guidance from chefs and senior kitchen staff. They will learn new cooking techniques, flavor profiles, and culinary skills, continuously improving their proficiency in the kitchen.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Current Prince Georges Community College Culinary Student
- Currently in Junior or Senior year of program
- Is comfortable in a restaurant kitchen and with the use of culinary tools, equipment, and techniques.
- Looks forward to working with a team to provide positive experiences.
- Can handle multiple tasks at one time.
SCHEDULE
- 16-week program (October 20th - February 9th)
- 24 hours a week (4 - 8 hours per day)
- Must be available to work weekends.
