Overview

MEC is looking for their next 2nd shift leader to oversee the Laser, Press Brake and CNC Machinging departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsible for driving department performance through an engaged and flexible workforce.



Responsibilities

    Drives positive KPI outcomes such as machine uptime, direct/indirect ratios, quality, safety.
  • Communicates daily with the production planners, schedulers, department leads, other shifts to set production schedules and ensure schedule is being met. Assigns work to implement the schedule, informing the planners when conditions change and the schedule needs to be modified.
  • Reviews employee time keeping daily to identify issues requiring investigation. Approves and monitors vacations and time off.
  • Responsible for overall quality of the department. Initiates corrective actions for NCR's, and customer complaints. Assures communication and compliance regarding QSP and work instructions.
  • Manages Continuous Improvement within the department including Lean and 6S activities.
  • Works with engineering to ensure that the best production processes, new product introductions including prototypes, samples, pre-production, and post-production planning sessions. Involves appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Builds an effective production team through selection and orientation of new team members and development of the team to promote a flexible workforce. Provides constructive feedback through MEC periodic and annual review process.
  • Creates an environment for engagement and development of team members to increase retention. Regularly communicates department performance through formal staff meetings and informal tool box talks.
  • Identifies coaching opportunities for team members and provides training opportunities for them to be more effective in their current roles.
  • Responsible for the safety and health of team members in the department. Regularly identifies safety hazards and unsafe behaviors. Works with the Safety Department for corrective actions and maintain company safety policies and OSHA compliance.
  • Ensures that monthly safety inspections are reviewed and all discrepancies receive appropriate dispositions.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and three or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working experience with Lasers, Brake Presses and/or CNC Machining Centers is preferred.
