Responsibilities

Hours for this role are a 0.8 FTE, Monday - Friday, 8a-430p

This role does float to multiple Metro Sites. Coverage at residential is an option for the RN Float but is not required

As an RN Float, you will have the unique opportunity to work across our adult and youth Partial Hospital Programs, inpatient units, and clinics, providing essential care and support to those in need.

RN Float is responsible for managing the care of patients experiencing psychiatric/mental health disorders in the adult and youth Partial Hospital Programs, inpatient, and the clinics. Coverage at residential is an option for the RN Float but is not required. The RN Float is responsible to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise nursing care of patients within the area of assignment pursuant to the policies and procedures of PrairieCare. Requires knowledge of nursing practices, which can be gained only through an accredited school of nursing. Oriented and educated in gender, cultural, and age-appropriate care for the assigned unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compassionate Care: Provide non-judgmental, culturally sensitive care that respects the autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients and their families.
  • Medication Management: Administer medications and long-acting injections accurately, monitor for side effects, and educate patients and families about their treatment.
  • Clinical Interventions: Perform timely interventions as ordered by physicians, including lab draws and other necessary testing, while ensuring safe handoffs to providers.
  • Patient Management: Utilize psychosocial, physical, and behavioral assessments to manage care for patients both in-person and over the phone, tailoring directives to individual needs.
  • Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, seeking and providing feedback to ensure the highest standard of patient care.
  • Therapeutic Environment: Use therapeutic approaches to manage the milieu in partial hospital programs and inpatient settings, focusing on reducing the use of restraint and seclusion whenever possible.
  • Group Facilitation: Plan and facilitate nursing groups, fostering a supportive environment for patients during their treatment journey.
  • Leadership: Lead and delegate tasks to Psychiatric Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Medical Assistants, ensuring a cohesive and effective team dynamic.

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Nursing School; Nursing Degree required. BSN preferred.
  • Licensure: Current licensure as an RN with the Minnesota State Board of Nursing is required.
  • Experience: Evidence of 1 year of psychiatric/mental health nursing experience within the past two years is preferred.
  • Certifications: Professional certifications such as RN ANCC Certification in Mental Health Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, and/or Holistic Health are a plus.
  • Critical Thinking: Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to problem solve effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate and make safe judgment calls in stressful situations, both verbally and in writing.
  • Multi-tasking: Ability to multi-task, use time efficiently, and prioritize appropriately.
  • Flexibility: Ability to provide remote coverage for clinics throughout the PrairieCare system and float to all PrairieCare Clinics, Partial Hospital Programs, and Inpatient units.
  • Crisis Intervention: Ability to intervene in person and on the phone while triaging during pre-crisis or crisis situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques and developing safety plans for patients as needed.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Maintain confidentiality, remain open to others' ideas, and exhibit a willingness to try new things.
  • Technical Skills: Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office products and EHR.
  • Knowledge of Standards: Knowledgeable of the Joint Commission standards for restraint/seclusion use and documentation requirements.
  • Team Dynamics: Ability to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle volatile and potentially emergent situations.
  • Quality Management: Demonstrate a commitment to quality management by seeking ways to improve and promote quality, while ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks.

Pay range for this position is $38 to $51 depending on education and experience.

Additionally, we consider internal equity to ensure fairness within our organization.
