Shift: Flexible between 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday (No weekends/holidays)

Duration: Ongoing

Hours/Week: 20 hours (can be split between facilities)


Job Description:

  • This position requires the Psychiatrist to work 20 hours per week, with the option to also work 20 hours at the Correctional Facility. Please note in the comments if your candidate is interested in working at both facilities. The hours are flexible between both locations, Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM. The role involves working in person (no telehealth) and the psychiatrist must be available for an in-person interview.
  • The psychiatrist will work 2 days per week per facility, completing psychiatric evaluations, risk assessments, and providing ongoing treatment to youth within the juvenile correctional system.


Required Qualifications:

  • The contractor must maintain current licensure by the State of Ohio throughout the term of the contract, with no restrictions or limitations. Proof of current and updated licensure is required.
  • Board eligibility in psychiatry, especially in child and adolescent psychiatry, is preferred.
  • The contractor must observe all laws, regulations, and policies of the State of Ohio and the Ohio Department of Youth Services (ODYS) when providing psychiatric care.


Required Experience:

  • Complete psychiatric evaluations for diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses.
  • On rare occasions, respond to a unit to evaluate youth who are out of control.
  • Conduct intake evaluations for youth transferred to the facility to assess medication needs and write prescriptions.
  • Respond to referrals from facility staff for evaluation of mental health disorders.
  • Complete risk assessments and make determinations regarding precautionary status levels for youth displaying suicidal behavior or ideation.
  • Assist in facilitating emergency transfers of youth.
  • Notify appropriate staff when medication is prescribed, altered, or discontinued.
  • Explain the need, benefits, use, and side effects of medications to youth and obtain informed consent.
  • Meet with treated youth on a monthly basis, or more frequently as needed, based on the psychiatrist's or ODYS personnel's assessment.
  • Communicate with parents/clients regarding treatment planning and medication use.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team consultations and provide input via appropriate methods (e.g., psychiatric nurse, email, written notes).


Indirect Services:

  • Consult with the facility physician to ensure continuity of care and comprehensive medical management.
  • Participate in a review of advanced-level providers.
  • Provide emergency services via consultations with facility nursing or psychology staff 24/7.
  • After a telephone consultation, examine the youth and co-sign telephone orders within 5 business days.
  • All absences should be communicated to the Psychology Supervisor or Health Services Administrator promptly. If coverage is required, it should be arranged in advance.
