24438BR Security Officer (B) (One Year Only) Gatehouse Administration Center Description Patrols assigned schools; performs security inspections; investigates and responds to security incidents; assists with the application of a school security plan. Qualifications Required Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate. One (1) year of experience in a security-related field. Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience. Must successfully complete compulsory certification training approved by the Virginia Center for School Safety within sixty days of hire and successfully complete recertification training annually. Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record. Applicants must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment. May be required to work evenings, holidays, and weekends. Knowledge of standard security procedures and the regulations and laws relating to grounds and building intrusion and trespassing. Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact in a positive, professional manner with students, staff, and members of the public. Ability to exercise good judgment under stressful and potentially dangerous conditions. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
