Job Summary




Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a proactive environmentally compliant culture by providing leadership and expertise in all areas of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) compliance.





Essential Duties and Responsibilities





  • Be a highly visible, positive influence with management, workers and visitors.
  • Must be able to communicate with ALL levels of management and workers using a variety of methods, tools and techniques.
  • Regularly work with (as required) the Health and Safety manager to assess EHS areas of risk and implement proactive strategies to drive sustainable results and improvements.
  • Capitalize on opportunities to build the knowledge and capabilities of leaders and employees around EH&S practices.
  • Provide visible, proactive leadership and guidance to plant managers and supervisors.
  • Interact with employees in all functions and levels, including subcontractors, outside vendors and other non-company contacts to drive EHS initiatives and culture.
  • Own all documented environmental programs. Review and revise as necessary.
  • Design, publish and use a regulatory compliance calendar in accordance with OCCUPA, OC SAN, SCAQMD, DTSC and OCFA.
  • Assist in developing, auditing and enforcing internal EH&S programs in accordance with state and local regulations.
  • Assist in building and joining the Arrowhead Products Emergency Response Team
  • Promote situational awareness in all aspects of daily work.
  • Ensure the implementation of continuous improvement programs and compliance with all applicable EH&S regulations
  • Measure, record and provide data to the Director, EH&S for designated metrics related to program compliance and progress to goal completion / milestones.
  • Stay up to date on federal, state, and local legislation regarding NFPA/OSHA
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends in the area of regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of site-specific manuals, records of inspections, and incidents relating to EH&S compliance issues.
  • Develop weekly reports and provide input at weekly staff meetings.
  • Continue to pursue professional credentials and education pertaining to the field of EH&S practice.
  • Be a resource, answer questions, follow up
  • Develop applicable training programs and deliver presentations at staff meetings, new hire on-boarding or other opportunities for compliance training.
  • Provide rotational on-call support for all after-hours EH&S concerns / emergencies if needed or required.

Education and Experience





  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science, environmental engineering or equivalent.
  • 1 to 4 years of proven related experience.

  • Experience in environmental problem auditing, problem solving and working relationships with local and state regulatory agencies.
  • Experience working in a heavy manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, large general industry environment.
  • A good working knowledge of State and Local environmental regulations.
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to develop substantial training programs if needed or required.
  • Demonstrated success managing projects and initiatives, documenting procedures and building and executing safety programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to form collaborative relationships with all levels of management, employees, outside agencies and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated success in driving consistent improvement in leading indicators for EH&S.
  • Effective communication, influence, and coaching skills with individuals at all levels.
  • Strong incident investigation, root cause analysis and continuous improvement skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Spanish communication is a plus.
