Research Support Specialist

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in a bioscience or related field in hand by hire date. Experience with research. Experience in operating equipment, carrying out test procedures and/or using special methods for data collection and interpretation.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with microbiology research. Experience with molecular genetics and biochemical assays (e.g., assays with recombinant plasmid and protein). Experience working with small animal models. Basic mammalian cell culture and biological assay skills (e.g., SDS-PAGE, western blot analysis, and plaque assays). Experience working under biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) conditions.

Brief Description of Duties:
Within defined test or analytical protocols, operate equipment, carry out test procedures, as well as collate and interpret data using special methods in support of a research project or program for Dr. Hwan Kim in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Duties:

• Conduct independent and collaborative experiments. Ensure that SOPs are followed when hazardous materials are used in connection with research animals.
• Perform literature search; stay current in the field by reading and discussing the literature and experimental results with the supervisor.
• Collect data, record observations, and measurements, and prepare reports for review by the supervisor.
• Laboratory support: Support daily activities as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.
