The Enterprise Data Architect serves as the technical leader responsible for designing, modernizing and governing the firm's enterprise data architecture. This role focuses on developing scalable data solutions, leading cloud migration efforts and overseeing the transition of on-premises SQL Server databases to Snowflake. The Enterprise Data Architect establishes best practices for data governance, compliance and modeling while selecting the right tooling to optimize data pipelines. This role plays a critical part in ensuring a smooth and secure cloud transition, aligning data architecture with business intelligence and AI-driven initiatives. In addition to overseeing day-to-day data operations, they contribute to the firm's long-term data strategy, enabling innovation and advanced analytics capabilities. In this capacity, the Enterprise Data Architect will:
- Serve as the IT owner of enterprise data solutions, overseeing data architecture, governance and modernization efforts;
- Lead cloud migration initiatives, including the transition of on-premises SQL Server databases to Snowflake and other cloud-based solutions;
- Design, develop and optimize data pipelines and integration frameworks to support business intelligence, analytics and AI-driven initiatives;
- Provide direct oversight and management of data platforms, ensuring security, scalability and performance across enterprise data environments;
- Act as a subject matter expert for data architecture, cloud data platforms and governance, providing technical guidance to both IT and business stakeholders;
- Establish and enforce best practices for data modeling, metadata management and compliance with regulatory and security standards;
- Collaborate with key business and technology stakeholders to define requirements, align data strategies with business goals and drive innovation;
- Evaluate, recommend and implement data tools and technologies, staying ahead of industry trends in cloud data management and analytics;
- Monitor, track and report on data platform performance and capacity, ensuring efficient resource utilization and future scalability;
- Develop and maintain architecture and support documentation, ensuring consistency and accessibility for engineering and support teams;
- Ensure alignment with IT governance frameworks, participating in Change Management, SDLC and incident management processes;
- Work closely with quality assurance teams to establish data validation processes, test scripts and remediation strategies; and
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior data engineers and analysts, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.
Proficiencies:
- Highly collaborative with strong communication, organization and critical thinking skills, along with a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and customer service;
- Deep expertise in cloud-based data solutions, including Snowflake, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform;
- Proven experience in managing and supporting cloud migrations, including data pipeline modernization and optimization;
- Strong knowledge of database management systems, including SQL Server, PostgreSQL and cloud-native databases;
- Proficiency in SQL development, query optimization and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker;
- Understanding of best practices for data backup, recovery and monitoring in cloud environments;
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA, GDPR, CCPA) and security best practices;
- Experience with data modeling techniques (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema) and metadata management;
- Ability to define and enforce data architecture standards, ensuring consistency and compliance across the organization;
- Proficiency in working with project management tools, such as Confluence, JIRA, or Azure DevOps, to track tasks, resources and roadmaps;
- Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) and automation tools, such as Terraform, OpenTofu, or CloudFormation;
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for managing data infrastructure; and
- Ability to mentor and coach junior data engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and technical excellence.
Qualifications:
- At least 10 years of experience in information technology, with a focus on enterprise data architecture, cloud migration and data governance;
- At least 7 years of experience designing and implementing data architectures for large-scale, enterprise-level systems;
- At least 5 years of experience working with and supporting cloud-based data platforms, such as Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery, or Azure Synapse;
- Extensive experience with SQL Server and other relational databases, including performance tuning, query optimization and data modeling;
- Strong expertise in data pipeline development and ETL/ELT tools, such as dbt, Informatica, Talend, or Apache Airflow;
- At least 5 years of experience in data governance, compliance and security, ensuring regulatory adherence (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA);
- Experience selecting and implementing enterprise data tools, including metadata management, data cataloging and lineage tracking;
- Experience working in a professional services, legal, or financial environment preferred, with an understanding of industry-specific data challenges;
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and data strategies that enable advanced analytics and AI-driven decision-making;
- Experience with cloud migration strategies, including hybrid and multi-cloud environments, is highly desirable; and
- Demonstrated leadership in establishing data architecture standards and best practices across an enterprise.
