Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. Learn more about the benefits of working at UC Brief Summary of Job Duties: The incumbent is a member of the Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment (IRPA) group in the Office of Budget and Planning. Duties and responsibilities of this position fall into the following broad categories of conducting policy analysis, conducting ad hoc analytical studies, developing and preparing campus reports, constructing or maintaining Tableau dashboards. Duties involve the creation and/or modification of SAS programs to compile statistical data from the IRPA data warehouse, coordinating with various campus offices to obtain statistical reports, and verifying the accuracy of any data displays or reports produced. #LI-KA1 Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1-3 years experience in Institutional Research, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or related field Required
- Requires general knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques; statistics or social science research techniques; knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs; knowledge of organizational principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data (for example, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA).
- Thorough active listening, critical thinking, good interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task.
- Strong ability to present information in a clear concise manner verbally and in writing.
- Understanding of organizational rules and regulations.
- Able to provide good judgment, decision-making, and problem solving.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
- 50% Faculty and Departmental Instructional Workload Analysis and Reporting - Analyzing, validating, and publishing faculty and departmental teaching workload data in existing or newly created Tableau Dashboards. Metrics will include course enrollment, courses offered, student FTE, Courses Offered per Faculty FTE and other metrics as needed. Completing required reporting on faculty instructional activities to the UC Office of the President. Collaborating with Capital and Physical Planning staff to compile classroom and laboratory utilization data for use in campus and system-wide studies of space utilization. Developing the capacity for our campus to participate in the Delaware Study (cost of instruction) or similar studies in collaboration with staff from the Financial Planning & Analysis group and/or the Budget group. Coordinating the development and maintenance of IR data files related to annual faculty teaching workload reports (e.g., DSIR - our course record database, and the faculty workload exceptions tracking data table). Coordinating with academic department Business Officers or designated staff to complete the annual Instructional Workload (IW) reporting requirement. Educating department staff on the use of the IW data system, and producing reports and/or dashboards based on data collected via the IW system. Conducting ad hoc studies related to faculty teaching workload issues (as needed). Conducting policy studies on faculty teaching workload issues (as needed).
- 20% Graduate Student and Grant Support Analysis and Reporting - Analytical studies focusing on graduate students and the creation of student success metrics for grad students such as graduation rate, time-to-degree, and time-to-candidacy. Analyzing trends in graduate student support (TA/GSR Support, fellowships support and other aid). Create a new Tableau dashboard focused on graduate student support to show levels of support by disciplinary area and department. Responding to ad hoc data requests/extracts/reports in support of grant proposals and grant evaluations. Leverage IRPA data resources to streamline and automate our ability to respond to grant support requests in a more efficient manner. This analyst is the 'go-to' person for responding to grant support data requests.
- 20% UCSB Personnel Analysis and Reporting - Ensuring the integrity and validity of the IRPA personnel data table extracted from the UCPath ODS. Collaborating with Graduate Division staff to complete the Postdoctoral Scholars and Non-Faculty Researcher portion of the NSF's Graduate Student Survey. Maintaining the IRPA Personnel Dashboard and publishing descriptive reports showing the number of UCSB personnel (headcount and FTE) by type (e.g., faculty, other academics, staff, or student employees) and by organizational unit (e.g., college, division, or department). Coordinating with the Office of Academic Personnel to obtain data on Ladder-Rank faculty and creating and working with the IRPA data systems analyst to update the appropriate tables in the IR data warehouse. Tabulating and publishing faculty profile data (age, years of service, salary and other demographic information) based on the Academic Personnel data file. Conducting faculty turnover and demand studies. Developing projections of staffing needs.
- 10% Other Studies as Assigned - Conducting ad hoc analytical, planning, and assessment studies in student and non-student related areas (i.e., academic, personnel, budget, facilities, financial aid, institutional advancement) as assigned by the Director. Conducting or assisting in assessment and qualitative studies (e.g., survey research, focus groups) performed by Institutional Research.
