  • Strong computer skills

  • Experience working with students and other stakeholders

  • Attention to detail and the organizational ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively
  • Some evening and weekend hours will be required for this position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Office of International Programs (OIP) is responsible for spearheading the global engagement efforts at App State. Through the curriculum, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, relationships with scholars and students from around the world, education abroad programs, grants, and scholarships for collaborative research abroad, and numerous cross-cultural programs, App State creates opportunities for students to understand the world and be active participants in it. App State has committed to engage students in diverse experiences at home and abroad to increase their knowledge of global issues, regions, and cultures; improve their intercultural skills, and develop attitudes that cultivate global citizenship. The Education Abroad unit within this office is responsible for facilitating education abroad experiences for Appalachian students.
The primary responsibilities of the Education Abroad Advisor is advising students and managing the full life cycle of outbound student exchange, affiliate and internship programs including recruitment, application, experience abroad and re-entry for App State students. This position will also provide support to incoming international exchange students in collaboration with the Associate Director of Education Abroad for Exchange and Affiliate Programs.
The Education Abroad Advisor will work with the Associate Director of Education Abroad for Exchange and Affiliate Programs on on-campus outreach efforts. The outreach responsibilities require not only interpersonal skills but also an understanding of how the campus community (students, faculty, administrators, and families) consumes information. This position will work closely with the Education Abroad team to create an outreach plan for the various constituents and will be instrumental in carrying out the plan. This plan will include attending info sessions; classroom visits; sharing information with advisors across campus; attending campus events; creating marketing materials; and assisting in curriculum integration projects
The Education Abroad Advisor will supervise Education Abroad Peer Advisors. These student workers, sponsored by their study abroad affiliate program, work in the office to market and promote education abroad opportunities. The Education Abroad Advisor is responsible for supervising this cohort of students, providing professional development opportunities and supporting their professional growth.
This position will also be responsible for other duties as assigned that align with the OIP mission and the university's strategic plans.
