The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the financial and operational goals of our Schulenburg, TX manufacturing facility, which specializes in producing shelf-stable cheese dips and salsa. In this position, you will work closely with the plant leadership team and assist the Site Controller to ensure accurate and timely month-end close processes, prepare financial reports for DFA and key customers, and support various financial aspects of daily plant operations. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic manufacturing environment while ensuring the integrity of financial data and processes. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with month-end closing for the Schulenburg facility, including (but not limited to) preparation of journal entries, analysis of general ledger balances and activity, and researching transactional postings.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of monthly internal financial reports, customer-required financial reports, and balance sheet account analysis, as assigned, in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assist the Site Controller with preparation of the annual budget and monthly forecast for both DFA and the customer, as assigned.
- Assist the Site Controller with annual blind-tagged inventory physical count.
- Prepare and distribute weekly phase (cost of non-conformance) reports, inventory reports, production reports, and other assigned plant reports.
- Maintain accounting information for vendor notifications and work with P&I Inventory Specialists to capture any credit due from the vendor or freight company that may have resulted in vendor's non- compliance or quality of product received.
- Identify the impact of daily events on the Key Performance Indicator calculations and keep management staff educated and informed on an as-needed, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Exercise fiduciary duties to safeguard DFA assets and ensure compliance with DFA policies and procedures related to disciplines of Accounting and Finance.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required.
- CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
- 0-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in cost accounting or a manufacturing environment. Prior experience in a food manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) related to accounting and financial reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (including pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, and complex formulas) required.
- Experience with ERP systems (such as JDE, SAP, Oracle, or similar) is a plus.
