Click here to learn more about Group Benefits solutions. Role Overview: Ensure sustainment of the Continuous Improvement (CI) Management System in each business unit/function:
- Deepen the adoption of Continuous Improvement principles, systems, and tools through coaching, ensuring individuals in the business area have the necessary training and skills, as well as reinforcing behaviors with business leaders.
- Support post-implementation Sustainability through a variety of activities you are accountable for, including CI assessments, corrective action planning, and improvement execution until process changes are fully implemented and embedded in BU activities and behaviors.
- Drive balanced scorecard performance against targets (e.g., quarterly, annually), including delivery of value creation and value capture initiatives (e.g., capacity improvements driving towards overall value capture target) in partnership with BU leaders and Finance.
- Continue to build individual competencies in CI tools and behaviors, consistently pushing the thinking and driving improved ways-of-working. Participate in the CI community of practice to both build CI competencies and to share and learn from other CI leaders (within and outside NYL).
What You'll Do: The Business Unit Sustainability Leader supports the Business Unit or Function in the continued implementation of Continuous Improvement and is responsible for co-developing a series of 100-day plans and supporting plan execution to extend performance improvement beyond initial implementation. This is done through coaching tier 1-3 leaders on the usage and refinement of CI principles, systems, and tools; helping train new employees in Continuous Improvement ways of working; ensuring the business conducts regular problem-solving sessions with clear priorities, actions, owners, and timely solutions; and helping refine standard work as process changes are made and put in place in order to help meet value capture and performance objectives. Deepen the adoption of Continuous Improvement principles, systems, and tools through coaching, ensuring individuals in the business area have the necessary training and skills, as well as reinforcing behaviors with business leaders.
- Work closely and with tier 1, tier 2, tier 3 leaders to coach them on their engagement with and usage of CI principles, systems (i.e., leading and developing people, meeting customer demand, and raising and solving problems), and tools.
- Build Continuous Improvement competencies of business leaders, ensuring business leaders embed CI within the DNA of their business area's culture.
- Identify and improve system-level issues with BU leaders to ensure new process adoption and efficient execution.
- Work with COE (Head of Academy & Methodology) to identify host training workshops with BU teams to bridge skill gaps and develop a culture of continuous learning.
- Support project budgeting and facilitate special skill acquisition needed for improvements.
Support post-implementation Sustainability through a variety of activities they are accountable for, including CI assessments, corrective action planning, and improvement execution until process changes are fully implemented and embedded in BU activities and behaviors.
- Apply a subset of assessment tools regularly (e.g., quarterly) and support others in the execution of the Sustainability Assessment (including leading and supporting the assessment).
- Support synthesis of assessment results and co-develop with BU leaders associated 100-day plans to drive closing of identified performance gaps.
- Customize and refine CI tools for particular issues in BU solution elements in their business areas; facilitate regular CI reviews and updates of CI tools, as needed.
- Coordinate with other CI teams, other BU Sustainability Leaders to tailor assessments, questionnaires, procedures, and other post-deployment tools towards the end of each deployment phase.
Drive balanced scorecard performance against targets (e.g., quarterly, annually), including delivery of value creation and value capture initiatives (e.g., capacity improvements driving towards overall value capture target) in partnership with BU leaders and finance.
- Drive 3-5% productivity improvements year-over-year in partnership with BU leaders (after initial 15-20%) through the CI Management System.
- Support BU leaders in driving balanced scorecard performance against quarterly and annual targets, including delivery of value creation initiatives (e.g., capacity improvements driving towards overall value capture target).
- Help enable improvements in the team's core skills based on skills matrix competencies/assessments.
- Launch performance improvement projects and post-wave percentage change in operating KPIs.
Continue to build individual competencies in CI tools and behaviors, consistently pushing the thinking and driving improved ways-of-working. Participate in the CI community of practice to both build CI competencies and to share and learn from other CI leaders (within and outside NYL).
- Understand and be able to use standard diagnostic techniques designed to identify 8 sources of waste, variability, and inflexibility.
- Understand adult learning and be able to employ the appropriate facilitation techniques with individuals and teams.
- Utilize an opportunistic mindset, with a proactive approach to identifying continued opportunities for refinement and to increase performance and capabilities of both individuals and teams throughout the BU.
- Leverage strong project management capabilities: able to identify steps, timing, owners including managing barriers to drive completion.
- Continue to build an advanced understanding of CI principles, systems, and tools.
- Understand and be able to facilitate and drive effective problem-solving sessions and the supporting system-level processes needed (e.g., problem tracker).
Key linkages:
- Collaborate and coach Business Unit/function-specific Leader and managers regarding CI behaviors; lead regular check-ins with business leaders to review CI performance progress.
- Collaborate and partake in the CI Center of Excellence; shares and engages in best practices.
- Become an active member of the CI Community of Practice (COE leadership, Change Leaders, Change Agents, Change Agents, other BU Sustainability Leaders).

- Comfortability working with balanced scorecard metrics/targets and driving measurable business performance outcomes.
- Excel and PowerPoint proficiency
What you'll bring:
- Previous participation as a Change Agent in a prior deployment is highly preferred.
- Strong relationships with BU leaders and front-line colleagues.
- Demonstrated track record in managing and influencing people to drive improvement in the business.
- Team leadership experience preferred.

- Strong knowledge of the 4 CI loops and enabling tools; understanding of the principles, systems and tools that underpin Continuous Improvement.
- Awareness of the Continuous Improvement phases (prepare, diagnose, design, implement), the core analyses / activities aligned to each phase, and specific understanding of the redesigned process in their business area.
- Build very deep knowledge of the BU or function to effectively implement tools and how best to support the BU into sustainability.
People Management:
- Leadership style that reflects the intrinsic qualities of the Continuous Improvement competencies
- Ability to identify champions within BU to own and drive CI-related activities.
