Responsibilities

Expert Systems Engineers play a critical role in leading engineering teams, applying a multi-discipline approach to requirements engineering, solutions development, scheduling, reliability, integration, testing, and analysis. They ensure the accuracy and efficiency of geospatial intelligence systems across the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG), Allied System for Geospatial-Intelligence (ASG), and Federal Agencies.

Key Responsibilities:
    Assist in directing and coordinating requirements engineering, solutions engineering, integration, test and evaluation, and system analysis to enhance GEOINT capabilities.
  • Support planning, traceability of user requirements, cloud service evaluations, and process automation improvements.
  • Advise on solution designs, incorporating new technologies and evolving mission needs.
  • Lead systems integration efforts, strategic technical planning, risk management, and interface design.
  • Conduct Analysis of Alternatives (AoAs), Course of Actions (CoAs), trade studies, and engineering assessments.
  • Provide expert insights on vision, strategy, and capability development while integrating major system acquisitions across agencies.
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of engineering teams at various levels.
  • Enhance code architecture, leveraging OpenShift for cloud-based API development and storage solutions.
  • Manage and coordinate test events, validation, and verification of functional capabilities.


Qualifications

Skills and Experience:

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering or a related STEM field (engineering, physics, mathematics, operations research, computer science, IT, etc.), OR 18+ years of Systems Engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 18+ years of experience in government or industry, including DoD/IC Acquisition, Requirements, PPBES processes, or system engineering for complex architectures.
  • Strong understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle.
  • TS/SCI clearance adjudication or the ability to obtain SCI and pass a polygraph.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Systems Engineering or a related STEM field.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and processes.
  • Software Development Framework certification.
  • INCOSE Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Membership or leadership in professional organizations (ACSM, ASCE, ASPRS, OGC, SAREM, USGIF).
  • Expertise in geospatial intelligence, photogrammetry, remote sensing, or GIS.
  • Experience developing cloud-based solutions and working with Big Data (structured/unstructured).
  • Background in automation, AI, and augmentation technologies.
  • Proficiency in test design and capability validation using AGILE best practices.
  • Experience with OpenShift, AWS, geospatial databases (Oracle Spatial, PostgreSQL), and modern programming languages (Java, Python, JavaScript, C#, PHP, etc.).

Target Salary Range

$146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
