Position Summary

The Director of Continuous Improvement is a segment position within Apogee that will report to the VP of LSO while supporting Apogee's overall AMS program. He/she will be a peer to multiple site operational leaders and provide influential leadership to local continuous improvement associates. This position entails regular interaction with the BU leadership teams, as well as operations associates. Specifically, this person will be charged with the mission of accelerating operational transformation and improving EBITDA, in partnership with the SVP AMS and BU leaders.

He/she will rigorously focus on operational productivity for the purpose of Customer support, cost reduction, and capacity improvement. The position will drive Lean transformation "best practices" that will reduce costs and drive margin improvement in all areas of the business, while maximizing customer satisfaction and employee engagement.

The Director will be a Lean strategist and tactician with experience of setting prioritized multi-site operational excellence and deploying lean tools (such as SWK, TPM, SMED, LDM, VSM, automation deployment) to drive breakthrough operational improvements and cultural change.

The position will provide charismatic leadership to inspire and develop a high-performance operational excellence team. The ability to set priorities for the team, work with them to execute, and rally them with a sense of urgency and accomplishment is critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Co-Develop and implement Apogee Management System, benchmark DBS/TPS

  • Ensure AMS execution drives results for customers and stakeholder, connect lean to the KPIs and P&L

  • Bring lean expertise to operations and CI leaders, coach AMS execution. Teach but also have credibility on ability to execute

  • Deploy to short term direct leadership roles per the needs of business, function as talent-bench

  • Build up Center-of-excellence sites and value streams, communize best practice where appropriate

  • Assist with future acquisition integration, co-develop AMS recipe.

Education and Skills Required

  • BS required, preferably in engineering

  • Configured OEM Experience

  • MBA not required

  • TPS expert

  • Experience with direct operational leadership

  • Multiple experiences in lean operating environment, and transformation

Travel Requirements

  • 80% potential, dependent on home location

  • Travel (MN, KY, IL, PA)
