About the Position:

Advanced Technologies Group LLC (ATG), established in 1991 and located in West Des Moines (IA), is the country's premier provider of software solutions to the USA's largest judicial and correctional agencies. All software design, development, maintenance and support is done by full-time employees; we do not sub-contract. ATG is a Microsoft Gold Partner.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

• Independently manage large mission critical network of servers hosting data for ATG software.
• Support ATG developers as they create and update the Offender Management Suite of programs. This would include deploying applications, running appropriate scripts, and configuring security to support new versions of the applications.
• Work directly with customers under the guidance of team leadership to determine necessary network and server configuration changes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Track performance metrics of every network and server administered by ATG team; includes reviewing processor, memory and hard disk usage, etc.
• For issues identified, present corrective action plan to team management."
• With guidance from management, design and write scripts and processes to automate tracking key aspects of the hosted environment to ensure that data is protected and environment is robust.
• Respond to notification (email/pages) from utilities monitoring availability and key metrics of servers. Be able to independently handle issues.
• Complete projects within time estimates with minimal returned work
• Keep supervisor informed on progress of projects
• Seek information to update technical skills and business knowledge
• Other duties as assigned by company management.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• Deep knowledge of Windows Server technologies and concepts -- Active Directory, DNS, IIS, Storage Configuration, Performance counters and Event Logs. Deep knowledge of PowerShell scripting to perform redundant tasks and automation.
• Deep knowledge of VMware technologies and concepts -- Virtual Processor, Virtual Storage Configuration, VMware Clustering, etc.
• Deep knowledge of TCP/IP as well as working knowledge of SAN infrastructure.
• Ability to leverage deep understanding of key server components (processor, memory and disk) metrics to identity bottlenecks and improve performance
• Working knowledge of cloud technologies like AWS and Azure. Provide recommendations with respect to cloud migrations and prepare technical implementation roadmaps.
• Working knowledge of Linux technologies like Ubuntu, CentOS, or Red Hat. Demonstrated ability to deploy, configure, and manage Linux-based systems and services. Provide recommendations with respect to Linux solutions and prepare technical implementation roadmaps.
• Analyze server statistics to identify potential bottlenecks, then make change recommendations to resolve inefficiency.
• Independently write and troubleshoot scripts that automate routine maintenance tasks such as backups, operations monitoring and application deployments.
• Independently maintain and execute scripts that implement required updates to support new versions of ATG applications.
• Comprehensive understanding of network security principles and practices, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and encryption technologies. Capable of identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities and threats, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of network data.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university plus ten years of progressive work experience in the field; or Master's degree plus 5 years' experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and common scientific and technical journals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

REASONING ABILITY:

• Ability to define problems, collect data, and assist management to draw valid conclusions.
• The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Able to communicate effectively with peers and independently assist customers.
• Excellent organizational skills and willingness to learn and use new programming techniques
• Exceptional problem-solving/troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently or within a team.
• Ability to travel on business as required.
