SUMMARY:

The Nutrition Care Assistant collaborates with the Registered Dietitian (RD), Nutritionists, Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR) and members of the culinary team to provide clinical and nutritional care to our patients and residents. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide necessary support of menu software program, which includes, monitoring information related to diet plans, menus, individual meal plans, allergy menus, recipes, ingredients, and nutritional analysis.

  • Assist patients and residents on units and in dining areas with menu selections.

  • Train and mentor unit staff on the utilization of patient facing menu software program.

  • Assist RDs with low-risk patient and resident consults, follow-ups, and other patient care tasks. Perform routine nutrition assessments on assigned patients under the guidance of the RD or DTR.

  • Under the guidance of the RD or DTR evaluate and monitor the effectiveness and outcome of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy interventions and answer or refer questions regarding patients' nutritional care to the RD.

  • Under the guidance of the RD or DTR perform and document patient drug-nutrient interaction educations.

  • Communicate with related departments, such as medical and nursing, to optimize nutrition care.

  • Clearly inform the culinary team of patient needs in a timely manner; i.e., special diets, snacks, food allergies, food dislikes, and any other information vital to patient needs.

  • Assist the Culinary managers and/or supervisors in writing menus, to include seasonal menus, special menus, monthly theme meals, exchanges, and diet extensions.

  • Address patient complaints and concerns regarding meal findings to the culinary managers and/or supervisors.

  • Monitor the quality and accuracy of food served to patients through tray audits and dining observations.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.

  • Under the guidance of the RD or DTR complete nutrition assessments and follow-up on patients with low nutritional risk.

Additional Job Description:

Requirements/Experience:
  • Associate degree, granted by a university accredited by a USDE, recognized accrediting agency in Nutrition and Dietetics, Certified Dietary Manager preferred.

  • Completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) Accredited Dietetic Technician Program (minimum of 450 supervised practice hours).

  • Successfully passed the Dietetic Technician, Registered certificate by the American Dietetic Association - Commission on Dietetic Registration. Registration Eligible will be considered; must pass exam within 6-months of hire.

Required Certifications:
  • American Heart Association CPR certification within 30 days of hire.

  • Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) within 60 days of hire.

  • Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) trainings within 90 days of hire.
