About the Job
Reporting to the Director of Residential Life and Housing, the Wellness Coordinator (WC) is responsible for the development and implementation of department initiatives that support learning, engagement, and persistence. The WC will contribute to creating a vibrant campus community characterized by a strong commitment to engaging students with diverse identities with a special focus to students in UMC's residence hall facilities. The WC is a full time (10-month), professional live on position. The WC will be assigned an on-campus apartment and serve in the on-call rotation with other department staff. The WC is expected to have weekly evening and occasional weekend commitments, to travel on behalf of the department periodically, and to work in the event of University closure or reduced operations as needed.
Compensation and Term:
- 10-month renewable contract.

Functions and Duties: Residential Life Programming Specialist (60%)
- Work with department staff and students to create and maintain a living and learning environment that supports the mission of the University of Minnesota Crookston Office of Residential Life.
- Actively assist in the development and implementation of an intentional community development model.
- Participate in and present training topics for Community Advisors during fall/winter training and throughout the academic year.
- Establish an academic focused environment by creating campus partnerships, implementing initiatives, and providing tools to Community Advisors that supports student academic success.
- Assist in student leadership development. Be active and visible in support of student initiatives.
- Confront behavior that is not appropriate in residence hall and apartment communities, per Community Behavioral Standards.
- Assist with orientation and welcome weekend activities with Residential Life.
- Participate in an "on-duty" rotation to provide support for students and student staff. Being on duty may require quick on-site response throughout Residential Life facilities.
- Attend residential life staff meetings when appropriate and actively participate in Community Advisor training.
- Represent Residential Life and/or Student Affairs at admission events and orientation as well as work groups, task forces, and committees.
- Assist in the implementation of all residence hall openings and closings throughout the year.
- Assist the Director of Residential Life and Housing in the recruitment and selection of Community Advisors and professional staff (when appropriate).
- Assist in the execution of departmental emergency response procedures.
Campus Wellness Initiatives (30%)
- Develop a working knowledge of campus and community resources. Serve as an educator and general resource in a compassionate manner when intervening with students regarding a variety of issues including college transition, academic and personal experiences, roommate conflicts/challenges, intimate partner/sexual violence, substance misuse, and mental health crises.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a small team of Peer Health Educators.
- Develop and implement an educational wellness programming curriculum that Peer Health Educators, Community Advisors, and Residential Life staff can help implement. Help student and professional staff use data to formulate intentional programming that meets the complex needs of our student population.
- In conjunction with your supervisor, develop a successful program assessment to provide evidence of student learning and satisfaction.
- Work closely with Counseling Services, Health Services, Disability Resource Center, Case Management, Wellness Center, Title IX, DEI, and others to assure that a coordinated wellness effort is provided for the entire university community.
- Provide leadership for promoting Golden Eagle Wellbeing, including distributing the bathroom presses.
- Lead and/or collaborate with campus and community partners for wellness initiatives and events including (but not limited to) alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention, bystander intervention, violence prevention, and other initiatives that align with the Eight Dimensions of Golden Eagle Wellbeing.
- Serve as a resource on University and departmental policies and procedures. Advocate for best practices for holistic college student wellbeing in campus policy, practices, events, and culture.
- Engage in professional development relevant to Wellness Coordination, Peer Health Educator leadership, and university student wellbeing.
Other University Duties (10%):
- Provide leadership for the university's voter registration initiatives as per the requirements of Minnesota state law.
- Other duties as assigned to support the UMC student affairs team.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and knowledge of housing operations on a college/university campus.
- Demonstrated commitment to the land-grant mission of the University of Minnesota Crookston, especially as related to access and student success.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, student affairs educators, and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Health Promotion, or a closely related area.
- One year of experience (including undergraduate employment) in Residential Life, Student Affairs, or a closely related field.
- Experience in higher education providing service to college students with diverse identities
- Proficiency in a second language, preferably Spanish.
Pay and Benefits
