Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Manager Central Catering for the department of Dining Services. This position requires a broad range of creative, administrative, and operational qualities. In support of the university mission, this position directs a catering department that consistently achieves annual revenues of approximately $6 million through the execution of between 4000 and 5000 events. In the kinetic environment of a major research university, these events range from simple, small coffee breaks to multi-day conferences for 1000.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Optimizes the resources and entire support of the university's dining services department, one of the top university dining operations in the country with annual revenues more than $70 million.
- Directly involves in the coordination, event planning, menu development, event design and logistical movement of all events.
- Leads a team that consists of 7 members: Event Managers, Administrative Assistants as well as a Production Chef Manager.
- Responsible for monthly managers schedules, weekly catering meetings, production meetings prior to the execution of all major events and is aware of all weekly, monthly and annual financials pertaining to the catering department and dining as a whole (revenue, food cost, labor cost, etc.)

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a bachelor's degree in hospitality or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Minimum of five years of high-profile catering and banquet experience.

Certifications/Licenses |
SERV Safe certification required.- This position requires a driver's license to drive back and forth to events
|
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Significant years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree requirement.
- Also requires detailed knowledge of college and university dining.
- Also requires supervisory skills and knowledge of catering and restaurant service.
- Requires excellent communication and customer service skills, and computer literacy in industry standard software; expertise in planning and organizing; expertise in training and evaluating performance.
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

- Knowledge of Rutgers University, Student Affairs and Dining Services policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements strongly preferred.
