Position Summary The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician position functions to assist the licensed pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services to patients and necessary services and information to nursing and medical staff. These services include preparation and packaging of medications; distribution of medications, supplies, and equipment; maintaining proper inventory levels; ensuring medications are in date and secure; and keeping appropriate records and documentation. This position is also responsible for supporting initiatives of area supervisors and managers. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS For Hire: High school diploma or equivalent, 18 years old, submit all required materials for registration as a Pharmacy technician trainee to OH Board of Pharmacy 10 business days prior to official start date. On-going: Obtain PTCB or NHA certification and OH Board of Pharmacy Certified Registered Technician status within first 270 days of employment and maintained for continued employment. Note Locations and Shifts will vary and could include opportunities at the following Wexner Medical Center locations: OSU East Hospital, The James Cancer Hospital, The James Infusion department, or University Hospital. Scope of Position Under the direction of a pharmacist and in coordination with other technicians, the Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. The Technician must participate in continual training opportunities provided by the department to develop ongoing skills in other areas of the pharmacy. The Technician must comply with all rules and regulations of the hospital and pharmacy department. If registered as a pharmacy technician trainee with the OH Board of Pharmacy, the Technician must complete OSU Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) employer-based training program. This position must also complete PTCB or NHA certification within 270 days of the hire date and update OH Board of Pharmacy registration status to Certified Registered once requirements are met, unless such certification and registration status is in place upon hire. All technicians must maintain a current PTCB or NHA certification and OH Board of Pharmacy Certified Registered Technician status throughout employment in order to work as a pharmacy technician at OSUWMC Department of Pharmacy. |
