Position Overview: As a member of the Student Affairs team, the Student Accessibility Manager (SAM) will report to the Assistant Director of Student Accessibility Services. The SAM is responsible for supporting Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide students with disabilities by providing individualized accommodation and services to ensure equal access to educational opportunities. This individual will assess student needs through review and evaluation of supportive documentation and intake appointments, develop support plans, manage confidential student records, maintain detailed accurate records, and present resources. The SAM will also be expected to perform administrative and training functions and collaborate with faculty and staff to create an inclusive academic environment. The SAM will be tasked with removing barriers for students with disabilities and ensuring equal opportunity and accessibility to Post-Secondary Education while supporting student access, retention, and engagement. The SAM will collaborate with Student Affairs team members to develop, implement and evaluate innovative programs and services that provide support for the diverse student population at ERAU-WW. Primary Job Functions, Duties, or Accountabilities:
- Review and issue requests for accommodation from students with disabilities. Review each student's application for academic accommodations and documentation. Render a professional opinion about each student's request for accommodation as a member of a committee for determination of eligibility. Issue accommodations for students to ensure compliance with 504, ADA laws and university policy. Follow up on incomplete applications, prospects and at-risk students. Partner with students, faculty, and other stakeholders to educate them on compliance policies and facilitate the delivery of accommodation and support services.
- Manage a case load of students for advising and accommodations to aid in retention and completion of degree programs. Ensure maintenance of student records and confidentiality of records as per accepted standards of practice (FERPA). Participate in daily CARES team meetings with members of the Student Affairs team.
- Develop and administer workshops and training sessions for faculty, staff, and students on topics related to disability awareness, accommodation processes and best practices. Serve as a liaison between students and academic departments to promote understanding and compliance with accessibility policies. Work closely with faculty and staff to facilitate the implementation of accommodation and support services.
- Raise awareness of available resources and services among students through outreach programs and informational materials. Provide training and guidance on assistive technology tools to students with disabilities.
- Serve as primary contact and facilitator for the Workforce Recruitment Program, and provide resources for other career pathways.
- Monitor professional standards of qualifications, keep up to date with current issues, and participate in professional organizations (i.e. AHEAD, NASPA, et al). Research and identify trends and identify opportunities to improve SAS services to students.
- Represent the Assistant Director of Student Accessibility Services in their absence and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Social work or any related field. Required skills, knowledge, abilities:
- Interpersonal: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, faculty and staff
- Organizational: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and maintain detailed and accurate records
- Knowledgeable: Familiarity with disability laws (e.g, ADA, Section 504) and best practices in accessibility and accommodations. Familiarity with FERPA and management of confidential information.
- Problem Solving: Ability to assess complex situations and develop effective solutions tailored to individual needs
- Cultural Competence: Understanding of diverse backgrounds and the ability to create an inclusive environment
- Technical: Proficiency using data management systems
Additional comments regarding education/experience requirements:
- 1-3 years of work related experience in Student Support, preferred
- Bachelor required; Masters preferred
- Experience in a higher education setting, preferred
- Experience working with military students, preferred
