JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: A NIH-funded Postdoctoral Scholar position is available in Dr. Shengyu Yang's lab in the Department of Cell and Biological Systems at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania to study the role of mitochondrial calcium signaling and cysteine metabolism in cancer metastasis. Our goal is to reveal how the dysregulated mitochondrial signaling and metabolic stress in metastatic cancer cells promotes pancreatic cancer progression and metastasis. This project is built on our recent discoveries that the activation of mitochondrial calcium uniporter in pancreatic cancer cells is able to regulate cysteine metabolism to promote pancreatic cancer progression. Biochemistry, cell biology, genetically engineered mouse models and patient-derived organoids / xenografts will be employed in the study. Successful applicant will be a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in cancer biology, cancer metabolism, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or a related field and at least 4 years of experience postdoctoral experience in related field. Experience with metabolomics, cancer metabolism, and mass spectrometry and genetically engineered mouse models will be desirable but not required. This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire. Employment will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance withUniversitypolices.
