This position is responsible and accountable to the YNHH Cancer Register Manager for the oversight of the day to day operations of the Cancer Registry department and staff. This Individual will manage priorities and deploy staff to complete the scheduled work. Monitors the day-to-day operations and addresses issues as they arise. Serves as a liaison for the Registry with external parties. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities
- 1. Oversees registry operations.
- 1.1 Responsible for defining department priorities.
- 2. Manages registry performance by monitoring productivity for abstracting timeliness and accuracy.
- 2.1 Ensures compliance with the Commission on Cancer and Connecticut Tumor Registry Data Standards.
- 3. Coordinates team building and fosters positive staff morale.
- 3.1 Conducts regular staff meetings ensuring two way communication with staff and volunteers.
- 4. Serves as the lead to ensure that new staff have the required equipment, supplies and IT access to complete their work.
- 4.1 Coordinates new employee IT access to YNHH and Cancer Registry applications.
- 5. Performs case abstracting to maintain proficiency and meet work volume demands.
- 5.1 Minimum of 3 cases per day. Summarizes and abstracts information on new and old cases from medical documents directly into an on-line computer database maintained by the Yale-New Haven Health System. Selectively codes additional information by review of the complete medical record and from outside sources. Reviews the finalized record for errors and completeness and submits for quality review to the Quality Coordinator.
- 6. Commission on Cancer Accreditation Responsibilities.
- 6.1 Works with the Program Director and Manager to develop agenda for Cancer Committee.
- 7. Identifies opportunities to improve registry functions.
- 7.1 Attends regional or national conference as required by the Commission on Cancer.
- 8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred. EXPERIENCE 3 or more years of experience in a cancer registry setting with a focus on supervision of staff preferred. LICENSURE CTR - Certified Tumor Registrar SPECIAL SKILLS Computer proficiency in cancer registry databases, Microsoft Office. Required working knowledge of: Collaborative Staging, American Joint Committee on Cancer, Cancer Staging, Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results Program Summary Staging, ICD-O Coding, Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards, Multiple Primary and Histology Coding Rules, and the Hematopoietic Manual and Cancer Program Standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
