What is the Opportunity? Supporting RBC's public commitment to triple lending for renewable energy by 2030, provides in depth knowledge of complex power market and renewable technologies issues, collaborating with first line staff to advise on viability of loan requests and adjudicators to make well-informed credit decisions, structuring, risks and mitigants. Acts as a subject matter expert on complex power, renewables and tax credits (including tax equity) issues to enable RBC to meet it renewables financing commitments. Reports to Managing Director and Deputy, Wholesale Credit Risk (executive). What will you do?
Reviews highly complex financial models including resource and price forecasts provided by potential borrowers, requiring in-depth evaluation, frequently of emerging markets and technologies. Meaningfully critiques such forecasts and recommends base and downside forecasts for use by the business and GRM. Uses broad expertise and in-depth knowledge to support RBC in achieving its green financing goals, often with financing requests having unprecedented characteristics. Acts as top resource on power and renewables issues across the organization. Interaction with GRM risk managers and executives: 25% Interaction with 1st line business partners and RBC clients: 25% In-depth analysis of complex volume and pricing models and assumptions: 40% Professional development: 10%
What do you need to succeed?
Bachelor's Degree or MBA Progressively senior experience in power and renewables markets acquired over 10+ years Demonstrates expert knowledge of power markets and technologies and aptitude to investigate new markets and technologies, quickly forming informed opinions on their viability. Expert knowledge of power markets in areas where RBC operates (Canada, US, Europe and Australia), including understanding of supply and demand factors and forecasts which could influence these in the future. Experience with multiple renewables technologies (wind, solar, BESS) with critical views of their relative merits. Expert knowledge of price influences in multiple markets and ability to critically review price forecasts provided by consultants, including articulating market influences which might support or question the consultants' conclusions. Expert knowledge of dispatch curves and capacity markets along with future influences on same. Ability to work on highly complex project finance opportunities. Subject matter expert on tax credits including RINs and similar environmental attributes. Experience in Financial Services preferred
