North State Bank has an exciting opportunity for a Mortgage Loan Officer to be located on corporate campus in North Raleigh. The Mortgage Loan Officer generates sound and profitable mortgage loans and related fee income that are reflective of our business strategy and core values.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Partners with Bank officers to further cultivate value-added mortgage relationships with existing Bank customers.
  • Actively engages in business development and civic initiatives with contacts throughout the community, including current and prospective customers, builders and real estate brokers to achieve defined goals.
  • Meets Mortgage Division customer service, performance, compliance and regulatory standards and expectations.
  • Interviews and prequalifies potential loan customers.
  • Takes customer loan applications and issues disclosures on appropriate loan origination software.
  • Provides and explains various mortgage loan products to customers.
  • Provides suggestions to customers on actions that may improve their credit worthiness, if needed.
  • Collects appropriate fees from customers, such as those charged for appraisals.
  • Orders appraisals.
  • Obtains all necessary information for verifications and underwriting, such as financial data, tax returns, credit reports, etc.
  • Ensure that all loan packages are complete and accurate prior to submission.
  • Lock the loans and manage locked loan pipeline to ensure the locks remain active.
  • Assists in resolving post-closing deficiencies.
  • Communicates with compliance department on loans that need to be withdrawn or denied along with sending change in circumstance requests

Qualifications (Includes education, certifications, experience, etc.)

  • A bachelor's degree in business or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years of mortgage loan origination experience.
  • Possess and maintain eligibility for NMLS registration.
  • Possess a working knowledge of applicable banking and mortgage laws and regulations.
  • Strong teamwork with operational staff is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word and underwriting systems, such as DU and LP.
