Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Hourly Project Assistant II to join the NYSDOH Bureau of Water Supply Protection who will assist with program activities for a state-wide public health regulation, Part 4: Protection Against Legionella. The focus will be on provisions and activities related to Legionella in healthcare facilities and in communities.

• Assist with entering, maintaining, cleaning, and statistical analysis of environmental and epidemiological data provided by healthcare facilities.

• Participate in tracking investigations of healthcare-associated legionellosis cases, including reviewing documentation, maintaining event timelines, cataloguing case information, and improving and developing internal tools for evaluating associated data.

• Assist in administrative activities related to healthcare facility compliance with Part 4.

• Assist in preparing literature reviews, reports, publications, and presentations.

• Provide occasional assistance in environmental sampling activities, including preparing supplies and equipment, sample collection, water quality measurements, delivery to laboratories, and follow-up.

• Assist with research project activities including but not limited to, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

This position is part of the Pathways to Public Health Internship Program. This position will last approximately 10 weeks from 6/2/2025 to 8/8/2025. It is made available through funding from the Center for Disease Control's Public Health Infrastructure Grant to expand opportunities to strengthen career pathways to public health by bringing together students of all disciplines and academic levels with public health professionals to create a space of exploration, learning, and development.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently or within the past six months enrolled in an institution of higher education pursuing an associates, bachelors, or doctoral degree related to public health, epidemiology, and/or environmental health sciences.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Excel (formulas, pivot tables, summary statistics, and data visualizations). Experience with SAS is a plus. Coursework or experience conducting quantitative data analysis, including preparing and reporting summary data. Experience with water sampling.

Conditions of Employment
Hourly, grant funded position expected to last through 08/8/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will be available.
