Zoo Special Events Assistant

Milwaukee County Zoo

Hourly Pay Range: $24.52 - $28.44

Closing Date: 4/3/2025 or upon receipt of the first 50 applications

Job Summary: With direction from the Events Manager, the Zoo Special Events Assistant will coordinate, develop and implement special events to increase revenue and attendance. This role will also manage event logistics, including entertainment, programming, and volunteer duties. Ensure successful, organized, and well-designed public events.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Coordinate all aspects of events from concept to completion. Assist in executing more than 20 annual events to generate attendance and revenue. Develop new events, activities, and programming. Create contingency plans for adverse weather conditions.
  • Effectively communicate event operations and logistics with Zoo divisions. Coordinate volunteer job responsibilities and duties.
  • Coordinate online event registration through the point-of-sale system with the Administration and Finance Division. Track attendees, sales, and final registration lists.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing for entertainment. Research and follow trends for new entertainment options.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with community partners and event sponsors. Fulfill sponsor agreements. Request donations.
  • Maintain assigned special event operating budget, track expenditures, revenues and payments through financial system. Assist with profit and loss statements.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:



  • Current resident of the state of Wisconsin.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license, able to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a closely related field.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in Special Events Management.
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Able to lift/carry and push/pull up to 60lbs.
  • Willing and able to work irregular hours due to frequent overtime, weekend, or shift rotation.
