The Cultural Support Liaison's role is to facilitate and provide communication between Native American patients, their families (extended), and PrairieCare, as well as provide community outreach. This role is designed to encourage and empower our Native American youth and families to be active participants in their care and treatment. The role will also provide education to staff, patients, and their families with a cultural perspective on mental health care. The role of Spiritual Cultural Support Liaison is to also bridge the gap between mental health care providers and the patients they serve with the intent to ease Indigenous Health Disparities within the treatment of mental health and hospitalization. The Liaison is located within the hospital (75% of the time) and in the community (25% of the time). This may involve the integration of spiritual leaders and elders who are seen as role models and recognized by one's community. The ideal candidate for the position of Spiritual Cultural Support Liaison is a credible role model in the Native American community and has good relationships with key partners and stakeholders including community agencies and tribal entities.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Shares cultural knowledge, understandings, and teachings of Seven Grandfathers, medicine wheel, and four sacred plant medicines.
• Stays within the scope of practice while adhering to standards of performance for their primary job duties.
• Assists in creating an inclusive and collaborative environment for providers, patients, families, and staff to ease racial and ethnic disparities in the treatment of Native American mental health.
• Helps to ease Indigenous Health Disparities that carry historical and inherent distrust within the Native American communities toward mental health organizations.
• Collaborates with doctors, social workers, and therapists in the development of care plans to address spiritual and cultural needs.
• Provides culturally specific trauma-informed spiritual care and support.
• Understand the strengths and needs of our Native American communities and be able to navigate the system effectively.
• Understand the cultural values of health, beliefs, and practices within the identity of Native American cultural groups and communities. To be able to serve as a communicator and liaison between the patients and the interdisciplinary team.
• Will be involved with community outreach and education in supporting patients and family before discharge and once back home (for approximately 6 months) within the Native American community.
• Collaboration with other community agencies and tribal entities. Creates a network of tribal social workers, therapists, ICWA, and tribal police.
• Assist in developing culturally appropriate educational materials in partnership with our Native American Population Social Worker.
• Guide in helping patients and parents learn more about mental health care settings and their function, as applicable.
• Directly communicates with the Cultural Liaison regarding cultural issues.
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality for all relatives within the hospital and when in the community.

• High school graduate or equivalent required
• Knowledge of our Regional Native American communities, urban and reservations, with an understanding of the vast tribal/intertribal differences required.
• Have recognition/endorsement by the Native American community.
• Ongoing awareness and personal care to appropriately address existing or potential secondary traumatic stress related to lived experience and work experience within the Native American community and mental health systems.
• Ability to advise staff about the Native American community and specialized role.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the care team.
• Considered a subject matter expert in their area of specialty.
• Ability to focus on solving conflict, to be aware of lateral violence of self to others.
• Ability to display passion and optimism.
• Ability to hold patient confidentiality and strictly adhere to HIPAA and other privacy laws and policies governing the medical system.

Pay range for this position is $20.00 to $26.00 depending on education and experience.

An individual's pay rate within the posted range is determined by several factors, including skills, experience, education, and market conditions. Additionally, we consider internal equity to ensure fairness within our organization.
