Work Location Delicato Vineyards Manteca

Position Purpose

Independently oversees both short-term and long-term capital projects budgeting, ranging from $20M to $35M annually. This position is responsible for detailed planning, project design, presentation and execution with a strong emphasis on cost control and customer collaboration/satisfaction. The VP ofEngineering is a Lean leader who utilizes proven process improvement methodology to establish engineering standards, develop/improve processes, establish metrics, reduce operating costs and develop long-term facility plans for multiple sites.

Functional Responsibility

  • Oversees, directs, and manages activities and the leadership team's performance in areas of responsibility
  • Drives and models company culture and holds self, peers, and direct reports accountable for demonstrating a constructive company culture through influential, personal behavior and actions
  • Communicates the company's vision and mission; develops and implements the strategies that guide the direction of the business in areas of responsibility
  • Identifies, analyzes, and drives the competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, new industry developments, best practices, standards, etc.; maintains awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
  • Owns and oversees the development of the rolled-up budget, and conducts financial planning and analysis to ensure budget and other financial goals are in line with business strategy
  • Directs the optimization of resources and results; collaborates with cross-functional leaders to position and integrate business functions and remove obstacles to accomplish key objectives and high impact initiatives
  • Drives strategic alignment, guides leadership team, and works cross-functionally in the development of staffing plans; attracts, motivates, and retains a workforce with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities to achieve the company's goals and objectives
  • Promotes and ensures a safe and healthy work environment for all employees
  • Aligns leaders on change initiatives, leads the way, and prepares the company for success in a continually changing environment
  • Fosters a work environment that encourages creative thinking, promotes flexibility, and drives innovation
  • Ensures that employee issues, concerns, and complaints are handled in accordance with company policies and applicable legal advice for clear, consistent messaging and resolution
  • Ensures compliance and consistent application of company policies, initiatives, and decisions
  • Inspires, guides, and develops direct reports; identifies and mentors successor; fully engages in the GPS (Performance Management) process; provides high-quality feedback, and ensures proper GPS documentation of employee performance, recognition, and deficiencies

Essential Duties

  • Works collaboratively with executive management, senior management and key stakeholders to develop technical strategies that deliver safety, environmental, quality, energy, maintenance and OEE programs in order to continuously improve overall performance
  • Manages Strategic Facilities Planning including development and maintenance of a long-term (5 year) capital plan
  • Oversees the development of detailed capital project packages, submits for approval and is responsible for project budget, scope and delivery schedules
  • Develops, implements, and oversees security policies, personnel, and technology to protect company assets, employees, and customers across multiple locations
  • Leads & directs efforts of assigned Engineering, Security & Controls staff, including Directors, Managers, and Project Engineers in their roles and responsibilities to meet objectives in safety, quality, cost, and customer service
  • Drives process improvements, employee engagement, training, and development to maximize manufacturing reliability
  • Manages contracted labor on assigned projects to ensure full compliance with internal and external safety/environmental policies and procedures
  • Establishes engineering standards and processes to achieve best in class performance and develops a scorecard to measure success
  • Establishes and maintains technical standards, documentation, specifications and procedures for technical activities in accordance with the latest industry/legal requirements and best practices; formally documents final design requirements of all pending projects and as-built documents for all completed projects
  • Collaborates with finance to create and execute a maintenance and capital budget to ensure that financial allocations and obligations are set, administered and met
  • Understands and ensures regulatory compliance and works collaboratively with Quality Systems Manager, Director of Safety and others as assigned with: OSHA, EPA, FDA, PSM-RMP local fire/police/health/utilities department(s), Weights and Measures, and other regulatory/governmental agencies

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience



  • BS in Engineering, Business or related field;MBA preferred
  • 10+ years supervisory and/or project management experience
  • 10+ years of experience in Engineering in a manufacturing or similar environment
  • Strong Lean skill set and a minimum of 5 years experience applying Lean principles
  • Extensive technical experience, including but not limited to:

    • PLC systems
    • Electro-mechanical systems;
    • Utility systems (steam, compressed air, ammonia refrigeration, etc.)




Preferred:

* Food and beverage manufacturing design experience

* TPM experience

* Security policy experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Exceptional influence management skills with the ability to manage cross-functional resources without direct reporting relationships
  • Excellent communication skills - both formal and informal with the ability to communicate within all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of managerial finance
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional Project Management skills
  • Strong computer application skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Key Leadership Competencies in addition to ethics/values and integrity/ trust, action oriented, decision quality, priority setting, timely decision making, time management and innovation management.



Preferred:



  • Ability to read PLC Ladder logic
  • Experience with SAP; Microsoft Project; CAD



Certificates and Licenses



  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) (preferred)
  • Black Belt or similar Lean certification (preferred)

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing plant/production floor environment
  • Required to drive automotive vehicle or equipment
  • Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment
  • Occasionally may be required to lift and carry cases of wine

California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $207,360.00 to $311,040.00. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
