I. JOB OVERVIEW


Job Description Summary:

Reporting to the Head Coach of Volleyball, the Assistant Coach will support the Volleyball program by performing the following:

  • May assist in identifying and recruiting academically and athletically talented student- athletes for the women's volleyball program.
  • Assists in team coaching and individual player development.
  • May assist in the coordination of team and individual travel for the purpose of team competition and player recruitment.
  • May assist in preparation and implementation of both camps and adult clinics. Assists in the game-day management.
  • May assist in scouting and video preparation to prepare team for competition. Assists in monitoring academic, social, and personal development of women's volleyball student-athletes.
  • Maintains knowledge and remain current regarding all appropriate NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference, Department of Athletics and Recreation, and University compliance issues, policies, and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships and communications with students, colleagues, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and general public.


The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC but will require significant domestic travel for games and events. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 1 year of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching and/or playing experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • Thorough knowledge of Division I NCAA rules and Division I intercollegiate athletics.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of the recruitment process.
  • Ability to work with and communicate effectively with all team members and support staff within George Washington Athletics and the GW community. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer and technical skills. Ability to train and motivate student-athletes.

Hiring Range $45,925.13 - $75,829.87
