Job Summary:

The BDO National Tax Office (NTO) Advisory practice provides technical leadership and support to firm client service professionals and alliance firms on tax matters, new legislation and Treasury guidance, articles on key tax issues and working with marketing and Tax quality control to ensure a high level of information that is disseminated internally and externally. The Tax Managing Director (Managing Director), NTO-A, Information Reporting and Withholding (IRW) Tax collaborates amongst NTO professionals and with tax leadership to drive communication efficiencies.

The Managing Director is responsible for leading and managing global information reporting related advisory and compliance projects to service and advise clients on the tax implications of their business objectives and various information reporting and withholding items, including but not limited to broker reporting rules related to digital assets, monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting reporting and withholding requirements and draft thought leadership regarding the impact, review tax information returns prepared by staff including IRS Forms 1042, 1042-S, 1099, FBAR, FATCA, CRS and ECI filings. This role applies their knowledge and experience to understand potential global information and reporting taxation issues, and assists in the preparation of specific computations where applicable. The Managing Director is a critical member of the NTO leadership team, and actively participates in the marketing and business development of the group. In addition, this role develops and drives process improvement and team-building initiatives, maintains client relationships, and acts as a source of guidance to other team members.

Job Duties:



  • Tax Specialization:

    • Creates comprehensive solutions that address all facets of developing new business capabilities a) Strategy, b) Organization/People, c) Processes/Controls and d) Technology/Enabling Tools
    • Leverages deep business domain expertise and understanding of inner workings of business functions to design customized technology and business solutions
    • Maintains and develops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding partnership taxation
    • May organize and conduct, or participate in conducting effective external CPE training sessions in area of specialization, involving Firm specialists, at a minimum of once per year

  • Research:

    • Identifies when research is needed; clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched; and clearly and concisely reports the analysis
    • Identifies complex issues to be researched by engagement team, and provides research methodology for an efficient research process
    • Trains Tax Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers on research skills, and helps to appropriately frame tax issues for analysis
    • Involves firm specialists, as appropriate

  • Tax Consulting:

    • Assists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients' current and future taxes
    • Applies a combination of tax and business/industry knowledge to recommend solutions
    • Maximizes client benefits, especially by decreasing client taxes, while managing risk
    • Implements applicable Firm strategies
    • Manages client expectations

  • Strategy Development:

    • Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to strengthen the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits
    • Researches and implements tax strategies, including experimentation with promising new strategies and ideas
    • Consistently makes suggestions as to how previous work products or approaches can be improved
    • Leads marketing campaigns, if applicable
    • Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients

  • Strengthening Our Firm:

    • Actively participates in office, regional, and national client service efforts
    • Actively participates in national, regional, Firm, and Alliance meetings and supports related activities
    • Actively participates in national Industry initiatives
    • Ensures the national business line conforms with the Firm's technical standards by examining office review reports from the Director of Quality Control and Technical advisors

  • Risk Management:

    • Displays appropriate knowledge of firm regulations and guidelines as stated in the firm's business line quality control manuals
    • Provides on-the-job training
    • Puts the interests of the Firm above the interests of a client when resolving issues
    • Engages BDO technical, tax, consulting, valuation, and other professionals to resolve client issues

  • Other duties as required


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • Supervises Tax Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers on all projects
  • Reviews work prepared by Tax Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers, and provides review comments
  • Trains Tax Associates, Senior Associate, and Managers on how to use all current software tools
  • Acts as a career advisor to Tax Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers
  • Schedules and manages workload of Tax Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers
  • Provides verbal and written performance feedback to Tax Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers


Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree, required; focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferred
  • Master's degree in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred


Experience:



  • Ten (10) or more years of prior relevant technology or tax systems experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required
  • IRW experience, required
  • Supervisory experience, required
  • Private equity experience, both fund and portfolio company levels, preferred


License/Certifications:



  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent ("EA"), preferred
  • Professional certifications applicable to role, preferred


Software:



  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint, preferred
  • Experience with systems such as Oracle, Thomson Reuters, ONESOURCE, Longview, Corptax or GoSystems, preferred
  • Experience with RPA tools (e.g., UiPath, Blue Prism, PowerAutomate, Automation Anywhere, WinAutomation, etc.), preferred
  • Experience with ETL tools (e.g., Power Query, Power Pivot, Tableau Prep, etc.), preferred
  • Experience with visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.), preferred

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
National Range: $300,000 - $400,000
Maryland Range: $300,000 - $400,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $300,000 - $400,000
