Description

GAI is seeking a Civil Technical Specialist to work in our Pittsburgh, PA office. Primary responsibilities for the position will be to perform civil engineering tasks such as E&S control, site layout, drainage design, and site inspections. The position will also include performing hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) engineering analyses, including H&H modeling, and preparing summary reports to support a variety of civil and environmental design, permitting, and construction projects.

Job Duties:



  1. Work on a variety of civil engineering projects including E&S control, site design, drainage design, etc.
  2. Perform hydrologic and hydraulic computations for the design of channels, culverts, bridges, ponds, stream restoration, flood studies, etc.
  3. Use of the following software: HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, Hydraflow Hydrographs, Pond Pack, TR-55, etc.
  4. Technical writing to develop summary reports for analyses performed.
  5. Use AutoCAD and ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro to develop new and edit existing drawings.
  6. Fieldwork for site reconnaissance and measurements.
  7. Work in a team environment under a project or task manager to meet client deliverables.
  8. Work on more than one project at a time.
  9. Occasional travel (1-2 times per month) for project site visits.

  • Applies learned knowledge and skills to perform assigned tasks.
  • Performs routine technical work which does not require previous experience.
  • Understands and complies with ethical codes.

Education



  • B.S. Engineering or other technical degree


Technical Responsibilities



  • Collects data and gathers information or documents.
  • Participates in laboratory testing and field investigations.
  • Performs basic computations or analysis.
  • Assists with preparation of engineering deliverables.
  • Observes construction activities.


Project and Task Management



  • Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
  • No managerial responsibilities at this level.


Management Responsibility



  • Receives close supervision on all aspects of assignments.
  • Attains mentored experience from a licensed engineer.


Communication Skills



  • Possesses basic oral and written communication skills. Identifies and acknowledges principles of teamwork and leadership.
  • Interacts primarily with internal project team members.
