This position performs a vital role to ensure the fulfillment of the Culinary Services Department's Mission "To make a difference in the lives of those we serve every day through exceptional customer service and outstanding food". Responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitization of dishes, pots, pans, utensils, equipment through manual and machine cleaning methods. Performs other related duties to achieve departmental goals. Position Summary:

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitization of dishes, utensils, cookware, and food service equipment using manual and mechanical methods. This role supports food preparation and service across the facility, contributing to a safe, sanitary, and efficient kitchen and dining environment. Additional responsibilities are performed as needed to support the department's goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Following department standards, wash, rinse, sanitize, and store service ware (e.g., dishes, pots, pans, silverware, trays, utility carts).

  • Retrieve soiled dishware and trays from patient areas and return them to the dish room for cleaning.

  • Ensure adequate supply of clean trays and utensils is available in the cafeteria during mealtimes.

  • Record warewashing equipment temperatures and sanitizer levels per policy.

  • Set up, clean, and maintain food service equipment safely and hygienically.

  • Use appropriate cleaning tools, chemicals, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Maintain cleanliness of dining areas including tables, chairs, highchairs, and floors.

  • Sweep and mop floors as needed, and clean up spills promptly using wet floor signage.

  • Collect, remove, and dispose of trash and cardboard. Sanitize trash receptacles regularly.

  • Support catering functions by delivering, retrieving, and cleaning up after events as assigned.

  • Clean vending areas, including counters, microwaves, and floors.

  • Provide courteous customer service to internal and external customers; greet guests and follow the dress code.

  • Apply service recovery methods when necessary and notify the supervisor of customer concerns.

  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental objectives.

Minimum Education and/or Training:
  • High school education or GED preferred

Minimum Experience:
  • Six (6) months of food service or commercial dishwashing experience preferred

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification (Required by SJCRH only):
  • Required: ServSafe Food Handler Training Certificate Program or another ANSI-accredited Food Handler Training Certificate Program within thirty (30) days of hire. Certification must be maintained throughout employment.

  • Must be able to adjust focus and have depth perception

Working Conditions:

  • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat

  • Noise level is typically moderate

  • Must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations

  • Must be able to access and move around workspaces, equipment, shelves, and surfaces at various heights

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $19.00 - $27.50 per hour for the role of Food Service Attendant.
