Summary

The Technical Services Department in Central NY is a team of Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, and Civil/Dam Safety Engineers that support the Operations and Maintenance and Regulatory Compliance of an 1,160 MW Pumped Storage Power Plant and a fleet of 5 hydroelectric power plants throughout Central NY. This role will be based in Gilboa, NY and will be assist with Dam Safety & Regulatory Compliance for 3 high hazard dams and Civil/Structural O&M support for our fleet of assets.

Responsibilities
  • Provide lead engineer function in support of a limited range of design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities.
  • Perform site visits to complete field inspections, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations and develop basic technical recommendations
  • Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
  • Independently coordinate cross disciplinary activities for the successful development and execution of projects.
  • Select and apply codes, standards, and procedures to work tasks appropriately.
  • Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied.
  • Provide direction and review in the development of the project engineering documents and submittals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Competency in the design, operation, and maintenance of structural and water systems specific to the electric utility industry.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Civil Engineering systems and materials used for Civil Engineering design.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented with ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations, and complete specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.
  • Ability to coordinate the technical and commercial aspects of projects.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working experience with a Civil/Structural, design software such as STAADPro, Risa, MathCad, PLS CADD, HEC-RAS software preferred.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Other disciplines may be considered)
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related work experience preferred.
  • New York State Engineer in Training certification preferred.
  • Driver's license required.
Physical Requirements
  • Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State.
  • Ability to access all areas of the plant and conduct physical evaluations of grounds and equipment including ability to climb and work at high elevations and in confined spaces, walk a significant distance, sometimes on uneven ground, and perform occasional minor lifting.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $85,750-$117,900. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
