Job Description

The Assistant in Training's responsibilities are to support the Assistant Golf Course Superintendents with the supervision of the construction and maintenance of the course, along with the surrounding grounds. The primary responsibilities are supervising small groups of associates, chemical and fertilizer applications, irrigation repair, hand watering, large equipment operation, and any other duties associated with the maintenance of the golf course. The Foreman will set an example for the entire department by leading by example, showing sound character, dedication, integrity, respect, and honesty. The Assistant in Training will be responsible for the department in the absence of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.



Responsibilities

    Must be well-mannered, greet guests and associates when encountered, and show appreciation to the guest for being at the resort, show willingness to help guests and associates at all times.
  • Use walking greens mower, triplex tee mowers, fairway mower, rough mower, roller, bunker rake, carts, push mowers, tractors, aerators, topdressers, sprayers, and a variety of powered and non-powered hand tools to maintain golf course grounds and landscaping.
  • Clean and maintain equipment that is used. Treat all equipment with care and respect. Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Calibrates application equipment. Uses hand spreaders, push spreaders, hand sprayers, riding sprayer
  • Hand-water greens, tees, fairways, and rough.
  • Trouble shoot and repair irrigation system.
  • Perform light custodial operations on golf course grounds and buildings, i.e. cleaning and stocking rest rooms, sweeping stones from paths, trash collection, mopping floors, etc. Use mops and brooms.
  • Paint and maintain buildings. Perform light carpentry work, as needed.
  • Lead small crews to complete tasks and projects on the course.


Qualifications

  • Preferable to have a two-year certificate or degree in the Turfgrass Management field but not required. If a degree is not possessed several years of Golf Course Maintenance experience may be substituted.
  • Must possess good leadership skills and the ability to be a strong team player.
  • Experience in safe and proper Chemical and Fertilizer Applications on a golf course.
  • Experience with irrigation repairs on a golf course.
  • Ability to communicate in written and oral forms.
  • Ability to work independently and in team setting.
  • Ability to interact well with others in a professional manner.
  • Ability to learn new equipment and procedures.
