Job Summary:

The Sr. New Product Development Engineer - Retailer Specific, has primary responsibility for being the technical administrator for product testing and communication, with a Retailer-specific focus. Presiding as the single-point technical liaison for developing, evaluating, and modifying new product designs in support of Retailer product requirements. This position is also responsible to ensure designs efficiently utilize quality and cost-effective materials, accounts for production capabilities, as well as supports the company commitment to producing top quality, durable bedding.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Key Results Area:

* Develop and maintain Retailer Specific processes focused on streamlining interactions between required parties to ensure timely product approvals

* Track non-compliances and implements improvement plans with plants

* Works closely with Plants and Quality teams to ensure readiness for inspections and timely deliveries to 3rd party test facilities

* Generate cost savings ideas focused on samples for inspections and 3rd party testing

* Facilitate 3rd party audit scheduling, sampling, and testing in conjunction with the manufacturing team

* Provide technical Corrective Action Procedure (CAP) responses via internal procedures and 3rd party applications and follow up to ensure compliance

* Integrate with the Sales team to provide technical product expertise and guidance

* Create product specifications, ensuring product meets specifications and customer requirements, including design rules, EHS safety guidelines, component and cover specifications, design and aesthetics, etc...

* Ensuring compliance to the NPD tollgate process; will collaborate with other functional resources at each step of the process and report-out at tollgate presentations

* Validate and determine all component and prototype specifications; develop bill of materials, including raw materials requirements, time requirements, etc... Will collaborate with Strategic Sourcing on raw material resources and options

* Perform DFMEAs, component and prototype trials, durability and functionality testing, EHS testing, etc... to ensure product meets the full range of requirements; troubleshoot and resolve issues as required to ensure product meets testing requirements

* Develop claims and substantiate through validation testing

* Perform pilot testing to determine the validity of the design through the manufacturing process, report-out and design review and product validation

* Actively participates in technical product development teams dedicated to ensuring the product is meeting the organization's key metrics for performance, margin, and consumer and retailer satisfaction

* Support new production processes and product launches to ensure product is manufactured according to design, safety, and quality specifications

* Assists in NPD initiatives, communicating with NPD team and other resources as required to support product development initiatives and rollout. Provides design and technical expertise as needed.

* Other duties as needed to support overall strategy and success of product development initiatives and rollout

Qualifications:

* Degree in Mechanical, Textile, or Industrial Engineering (or other related Engineering discipline)

* 5 years of experience in an engineering or operations organization delivering and maintaining consumer products

$76,000 to $109,000

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: Fast-paced corporate office environment. Some stress may occur. Regular travel is not expected in this position; however, travel around scheduled projects such as program rollouts may be necessary.
