The Shipping/Receiving Clerk performs clerical and physical tasks in connection with shipping goods of the establishment in which employed and receiving incoming shipments. In performing day-to-day, routine tasks, this worker follows established guidelines. In handling unusual non-routine problems, this worker receives specific guidance from supervisor or other officials. This incumbent may direct and coordinate the activities of other workers engaged in handling goods to be shipped or being received. Shipping duties typically involve the following: verifying that orders are accurately filled by comparing items and quantities of goods gathered for shipment against documents; ensuring that shipments are properly packaged, identified with shipping information, and loaded into transporting vehicles, and preparing and keeping records of goods shipped, e.g., manifests, bills of lading. Receiving duties typically involve the following: verifying the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records, checking for damaged goods, insuring that goods are appropriately identified for routing to departments within the establishment, and preparing and keeping records of goods received.

Primary Duties

  • Receive all shipments that are delivered to FIG Dining including food items, supplies, and equipment. Ensure that items received match packing slips and/or order receipts.

  • Perform physical checking of storeroom materials for breakages or damage.

  • Restock shelves with received food items in appropriate locations using the "FIFO" Method.

  • Perform inventory counts of food items, and report numbers to supervisor.

  • Maintain any records associated with shipping and receiving items.

Additional Duties

  • Keep stockroom & all refrigerated units cleaned and organized.

  • Ensure adherence to any safety standards.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED)required.

  • HACCP Certification is preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to count and document numbers.
  • Must be able to lift or move heavy packages (50lbs).
  • Have organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail is important.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit. The employee may occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
