Primary Purpose of Position |
The
Public Communication Specialist for the
Office of Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (OSPIE) plays a crucial role in enhancing the organization's data literacy and ensure actions are data informed through strategic communication efforts.
OSPIE serves as a key resource for the university community by collecting, analyzing, and reporting official university data.
This position is responsible for developing and executing communication strategies that effectively engage both internal and external stakeholders. Collaboration with various departments ensures consistent and impactful messaging across multiple platforms, including graphic design, social media, website content management, email communications. A key aspect of this role involves developing and maintaining training resource modules on the
OSPIE website to ensure accessibility and clarity for stakeholders while managing online content in alignment with NC A&T State University's brand identity guidelines.
Key Responsibilities: 1.
Content Creation: Design, develop and implement engaging visual content to incorporate structured educational modules to achieve specific learning objectives.

Website: Regularly update OSPIE's website with relevant content, ensuring accurate information and a user-friendly experience for visitors. Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels, adhering to the university's visual and verbal identity guidelines.
3.
Social Media: Manage social media accounts, including crafting posts, responding to comments, and monitoring trends to maintain an active and engaging online presence.
4.
Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with various university departments, including Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, University Communications and other media professionals to gather accurate and relevant information ensuring an accurate and balanced representation in the media.
5.
Communication Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with the university's strategic goals, focusing on promoting institutional effectiveness initiatives and outcomes.
Internal Communication: Assist in developing and executing internal communication strategies to ensure employees are informed, engaged, and aligned with company goals.
Email Communication: Develop and execute email communication campaigns to disseminate important information, updates, and success stories related to institutional effectiveness to targeted audiences.

Brand Management: Uphold and reinforce our brand identity across all communication materials and platforms.
7.
Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, competitors, and emerging communication tools to provide recommendations for improvement.
8.
Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies using analytics tools and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
9.
Public Relations: Draft press releases, statements, and other materials to communicate key messages to the media and the public.
10.
Event Support: Promote events, workshops, webinars, and conferences as related to strategic planning and institutional effectiveness, through various communication channels to increase attendance and engagement. |
Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Office of Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (
OSPIE) fosters student success and the University's effectiveness by facilitating evidence-based decision-making.
OSPIE serves as the primary source of official data reported from all major administrative systems across the University, conducts objective research and analysis for decision makers, prepares reports that improve understanding of institutional and program performance, builds data collections, facilitates access to institutional data and advocates for data quality and integrity.
OSPIE supports student learning assessment, the development and evaluation of academic programs and administrative functions, and institutional and program accreditation. |
Minimum Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education |
- Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in a comparable role.
- Experience working with websites (e.g., knowledge of web programming languages).
- Proficiency in using graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and video editing software.
- Experience in creating various training formats, including written guides, presentations, videos, and interactive content.
- Demonstrated communication, collaboration, and team- engagement skills.
- Ability to be productive and creative on a diverse team.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively and work with internal and external constituents.
- Ability to conduct research to determine content for communications.
- Experience with communication and online content management in a higher education setting.
- Highly skilled in use of Social Media platforms (LinkedIn, IG, etc.,), Microsoft office applications, Internet research, AI-related tools such as ChatGPT, Adobe Creative Cloud, SharePoint, OneDrive, Visualization tools, videography, photography.
- Ability to solve problems independently.
