This position is part of the Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE) business unit. ACE develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, as a Test Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development of our core extractive metallurgical processes, from conceptualization of experimental design to test article fabrication, testing, data collection, and processing.

In this hands-on role, you will work entirely onsite at our Los Angeles Facility with the Space Resources Program team. We are seeking a dynamic R&D Test Engineer to join our Agile Hardware Development team.

You will play a crucial role in the development of our core extractive metallurgical processes, from conceptualization of experimental design to test article fabrication, testing, data collection, and processing. The successful candidate will focus on increasing the throughput of our testing process while preserving data integrity and organization in an environment of high productivity and continuous improvement.

This role requires exceptional hands-on aptitude and the ability to address and overcome roadblocks for the team while engaging in, learning from, and positively contributing to the success of a multidisciplinary, scrappy organization.

We work in fast-paced cycles of design, analysis, and integration to deliver a scalable solution. We're looking for someone who is adaptable, willing to take action, eager to learn and committed to safety and quality. Your creativity, innovative spirit, and ability to navigate changing requirements are crucial.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or equivalent technical or scientific field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience executing tests and reporting results in a technology development environment to meet program objectives.
  • Experience designing and fabricating prototype test articles for chemical/materials process development.
  • Proficiency with vacuum systems and related hardware for high vacuum and UHV environments.
  • Experience with data acquisition tools such as LabView and Python.
  • Demonstrated ability to own and manage testbeds or experimental systems (test scheduling, safety documentation and training, routine preventative maintenance, system upgrades, etc.)
  • Proven ability to ensure timely completion of tasks and communicate schedule and budget risks with stakeholders.
  • Capability to identify improvement opportunities and develop detailed improvement plans.
  • Strong analytical and deductive reasoning skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience generating designs in CAD (Creo preferred).
  • Experience with additive manufacturing technologies for ceramics or metals.
  • Experience with data acquisition/controls using ROS/C++
  • Experience with high-temperature furnaces.
  • Experience with high temperature electrolysis processes.
  • Experience with FEA simulation tools such as StarCCM+ or similar
  • Knowledge of refractory materials.
  • Experience with CNC milling equipment and operations.
  • Experience with high-temperature braising and welding.

Compensation Range for:

CA applicants is $96,310.00-$134,833.65
