The Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Coordinator Registered Nurse coordinates care for patients with a ventricular assist device in collaboration with Cardiothoracic Surgery and Heart Failure Medical Directors. Working under general supervision, this role focuses on improving patient outcomes for this high-risk patient population.


Prepares patients before operations by educating the patient and caregivers along with communicating with the surgeon and cardiologist.
Prepare patients before operations by completing necessary evaluations and testing and communicating with the surgeon and cardiologist.
Evaluates patients to collect data and share it with the VAD team to provide a communication link for the coordination of efficient care.
Mentors the Ventricular Assist Device Program and Nursing Department in order to build knowledge of the technical skills required for this high-risk population of patients.
Educates patients and families on the ventricular assist devices and the necessary post-surgical care, including medications and daily routines in order to ensure a safe discharge.
Modifies patient treatment care plans using data and responses to treatments in order to improve patient care and outcomes.
Supports quality initiatives and joint commission standards of care.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Required: Associate's Degree
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 3 years as a Registered Nurse and 1 year in a clinical specialty as defined by ANCC or national nursing organizations

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required:
Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a Compact state
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
