What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking R&D engineers, scientists, and cybersecurity specialists motivated to positively impact the security of the nation. We are specifically looking for people with direct research experience related to embedded systems and FPGAs in particular. We have a need for engineers who can ensure the functionality and correctness of FPGA designs by performing testing and verification processes using simulation tools and other methodologies.

Our goal is to develop advanced microelectronics hardware assessment capabilities to support a broad range of growing and evolving National Security missions. You will be called upon to develop advanced hardware assessment capabilities to support a broad range of growing and evolving National Security missions. Our outstanding staff have specific expertise in microelectronics, embedded components and systems, protective technologies, and other areas. They are regularly called on to:

• Perform innovative and creative research utilizing Sandia's unique microelectronic hardware security and cyber capabilities to advance our capabilities, develop protective technologies and evaluate hardware for high consequence systems

• Work collaboratively with professionals across Sandia and at partner organizations to develop protective technologies and tools to secure the nation's most critical applications

• Build professional relationships with external sponsors and communicate technical findings with government and commercial entities in a small group setting or as part of a large audience presentation.

Salary Range:

$114,000 - $227,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

• You possess a minimum of a master's degree in a relevant STEM discipline, such as in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Cybersecurity.

• OR a bachelor's degree in the above-mentioned degrees or a relevant STEM degree plus 5 or more years of relevant experience.

• Experience designing, verifying, or troubleshooting embedded microelectronic systems including FPGA, ASICs, mixed-signal ICs, microprocessors, or systems on a chip (SoCs).

• You are able to acquire and maintain both a DOE Q security clearance and SCI security clearance, and have the willingness to take a polygraph exam, if requested.

Qualifications We Desire:

Ideally, your background would also include some of the following:

• You have an in-depth understanding of microelectronics assurance methods

• You have strong knowledge of FPGA design tools such as Vivado/Vitis, Quartus, Libero, and Diamond/Radiant

• You have a deep understanding of VHDL and SystemVerilog

• You have extensive knowledge of FPGA products from the major manufacturers (AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera, Microchip/Microsemi, Lattice, etc.) including security features

• You have proficiency in using formal verification methods

• You have a working knowledge of cryptography as it applies to microelectronics assurance

• You have strong oral and written communication skills and an ability to explain complex ideas clearly and concisely.

• You have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.

• You have an active DOE Q security clearance and SCI security clearance.

About Our Team:

As a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC), Sandia National Laboratories is continually asked to help address the country's most pressing national security needs. In the Threat Intelligence Center, the mission of the Information Operations Program is to assess, design, implement and influence the development of national security-related information systems and technologies in support of Defense and Intelligence customers and their national security missions.

More specifically, the Microelectronics Protection Technologies Group (5640) assesses, designs, and influences national-security-related information systems and technologies by developing and applying tools to analyze microelectronic devices and next layer assemblies for vulnerabilities; and developing and transferring solutions to help protect the nation's most critical systems. This work involves assessing hardware and software security features and looking for vulnerabilities in microelectronics that will be used by DOD, DOE, and other USG customers.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
