Domestic Animal Health Inspector

The Department of Agriculture is on the lookout for candidates to fill Domestic Animal Health Inspector positions, collaborating closely with Commission and Federal veterinarians to uphold the standards and regulations set forth by the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission. As a Domestic Animal Health Inspector, you will be under the supervision of the Veterinary Medical Field Officer. You will assist with collecting blood samples from horses for both pre-race and post-race testing, as well as managing the necessary administrative work to prepare these samples for laboratory submission. In the event of a domestic animal health emergency, you will be crucial in supporting the Bureau of Animal Health by gathering diagnostic samples, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with health standards to control diseases in key domestic animals.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Graduation from an approved Veterinary Medical Technology Training program and two (2) years of experience in the raising or handling of animals used for a variety of commercial purposes including food animals and farm animals; or
• A bachelor's degree in Biology, Animal Science, Dairy Science, Poultry Science, or a closely related area with at least 16 credits in animal science; or
• An equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

• This position requires possession of a valid class C driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
