Maintenance Technician (Seasonal)

The City of Takoma Park is seekingSeasonal Maintenance Technicians to perform routine maintenance tasks for the Public Works Department, including mowing, gardening, and other Vegetation Maintenance team duties.The employees in thisposition are expected be active through October 2025 and mayworkup to 40 hours per week, as assigned. This position is not eligible for AFSCME union membership.

Typical Duties Include:



  • Operating gas and electric mowing and trimming equipment in City rights of way and parks;
  • Routine maintenance of mowing equipment;
  • Hand weeding, mulching, garden maintenance, and planting in City parks, gardens, bioretention facilities, and rights of way;
  • Removing trash and debris from City rights of way and parks, storm drain inlets and pipes;
  • Watering new plantings.
  • Other Duties as assigned



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required to be successful are:



  • High school diploma or GED; and,
  • Three months to one year of experience in the garden or landscape industry or outdoor manual labor; or
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job;
  • Preferred candidates will have a current driver's license.



The hourly wage for this position is $19 per hour. A first review of resumes is expected to begin on April 7, but the position will be open until filled.
