Job Summary:

DAWSON is seeking a skilled Human Subjects Protection Scientist to support the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) Human Subjects Protection Branch (HSPB) in Silver Spring, MD. As a key personnel member on this contract, you will be critical in ensuring the ethical and regulatory integrity of biomedical research that protects warfighters and advances global health. This position involves reviewing research protocols, ensuring compliance with federal and DoD regulations, drafting policies, and supporting WRAIR's mission across CONUS and OCONUS sites. Responsibilities:




  • Evaluate research protocols and lifecycle actions (e.g., amendments, continuing reviews, safety reports) for compliance with federal regulations (e.g., 21 CFR Part 56), drafting Protocol Evaluation Forms (PEFs) within 15 business days.



  • Manage the approval process by drafting and triaging memoranda within 3 business days, coordinating with the HSPB, Institutional Review Board (IRB), and WRAIR Command.



  • Develop and recommend revisions to human subjects protection policies and procedures within 10 business days, as directed by the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) or HSPB Director.



  • Draft communications to Principal Investigators (PIs), including IRB meeting minutes, within 4 business days.



  • Conduct routine and for-cause monitoring of research protocols to ensure compliance, developing and updating an annual monitoring plan.



  • Provide training on human subjects protection and compliance to investigators, WRAIR staff, and IRB members as needed.




Qualifications:




  • Master's degree in allied sciences (e.g., biology, biomedical sciences, public health) with a minimum of 2 years of IRB regulatory experience OR Bachelor's degree in allied sciences with a minimum of 5 years of IRB regulatory experience.



  • Preferred: Previous experience with DoD regulatory frameworks or human subjects research in a military context.



  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe PDF products.



  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.



  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, analyze complex situations, and maintain professionalism in a military environment.
