Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Associate Director, Services for Students with Disabilities, directs and implements accommodations and services for students with disabilities on the Stockton and San Francisco campuses. The Associate Director supervises, trains, and evaluates professional staff to develop skills to review medical documentation, resolve complex accessibility issues involving academic and/or physical limitations, and determine appropriate accommodations. The Associate Director assists students in understanding their disability related rights and responsibilities related to reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The Associate Director collaborates with faculty, staff, and campus partners to promote accessibility and advise on regulatory changes and best practices.
As a member of the Student Life division, this position works to advance student development and retention, promote diversity, inclusion, and respect, and empower students to thrive.
Essential Functions

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate professional staff providing services to students with disabilities on the Stockton and San Francisco campuses. Supports staff in developing caseload management skills, maintaining case records, and ensuring confidentiality and compliance with FERPA.
  • Maintain a caseload of students. Determine accommodations by meeting with students, reviewing medical/psychological documentation, and specific program requirements to develop a plan to support access to courses, programs, facilities, services, and activities on campus.
  • Collaborate and consult with campus partners on complex cases, including but not limited to: Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Title IX, Athletics, the Office of the Dean of Students, Residential Life and Housing, Registrar, and Academic units.
  • Participate in the weekly Dean on Call incident meeting. Attend additional case management meetings with both the Office of the Dean of Students and other units' staff to resolve emergent problems involving at-risk students.
  • Manage the departments' Accessible Information Management (AIM) software database. Identify technical issues and consult with Pacific Technology and AIM support staff to resolve. Ensure templates used for accommodation letters are accurate and updated as needed.
  • Possess technical ability to use and train staff on other student information systems (Maxient, Ellucian Advise, StarRez) to manage caseload and support the University's retention goals. Identify students who need intervention and/or additional support and facilitate introduction to campus partners.
  • Lead the department's communication with faculty and staff to promote accessibility and advise on all applicable university, state, and federal ADA policies, procedures, and protocols. Provide ongoing consultation and technical assistance to faculty on the use of the AIM system to manage the delivery of accommodations.
  • Provide guidance to assist students with disabilities in their adjustment to college. Expand social programming to build community and promote student engagement.
  • Manage appropriate processes to resolve complaints and inquiries from students in an equitable and timely manner. Consults with the Sacramento Disability office on their cases as needed.
  • Develop departmental budgets, marketing, and communications, ensuring resources are allocated based on department and division priorities.
  • Develop and oversee the department's assessment program goals and activities; collect data and generate reports to evaluate key performance measurements and effectiveness.
  • Consult with appropriate staff to recommend disability-related accommodations to Residential Life & Housing that ensure a student's needs are met in on-campus housing. Participate in Resident Assistant training to help student staff understand disability accommodations and best practices in designing their programs to promote accessibility.
  • Identify on-campus and off-campus resources necessary for academic accommodations. Oversee the Testing Center Manager's hiring of student workers (ex., note-takers, cart drivers) and contracting for assistive technology (alternative formatting, transcriptions, etc.) as needed.
  • Develop cooperative relationships with campus partners. Provide ongoing professional development/workshops for faculty, staff, and student workers around disability issues and the benefits of universal design. May participate in University committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


This position serves as Campus Security Authority ( CSA) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported to them.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (i.e., Two (2) years of full-time experience in the same/similar position is equal to one (1) year of completed post-high school coursework).
  • Five (5) years of experience working with persons with disabilities in an educational setting
  • Two (2) years of experience supervising staff.
  • One (1) year of experience using Accessible Information Management software.


Skills and abilities:
  • Possess strong crisis intervention and consultation skills. Must possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, conflict management, and organizational skills with the ability to work creatively, innovatively, and independently while under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of ADA regulations and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret results of various assessments and diagnostic tools used to diagnose different types of disabilities and make recommendations for reasonable accommodations required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advocacy for and experience working with students with disabilities at the post-secondary level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the broad spectrum of disability categories present in post-secondary settings and the corresponding reasonable accommodations available to these students
  • Experience advising, counseling, coaching, and/or teaching college students with disabilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to present materials to students, faculty, staff, and families.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to function well autonomously.
  • Ability to use technologies suitable for case management, data tracking, and reporting.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Constant verbal and written communication. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with use of computer and phone.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserve the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $68,640.00-$86,273.00 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
