About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced IT Installation Manager to oversee and manage the installation, configuration, and deployment of IT hardware and software for a federal government contract. The IT Installation Manager will be responsible for coordinating installation teams, ensuring all installations are completed according to specifications, and maintaining compliance with federal guidelines and security standards. This position will involve direct interaction with stakeholders, vendors, and internal teams to ensure seamless and successful IT deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management & Coordination:
- Manage the end-to-end process of IT hardware installations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and tracking progress against milestones.
- Coordinate with government agencies, hardware/software vendors & suppliers, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery and installation of IT hardware, software, and systems.
- Ensure project deliverables meet client requirements, specifications, and timelines, while staying within budget constraints.
- Ability to create detailed plans.
Technical Experience:
- Solid understanding of computer hardware, peripherals, and network devices.
- Familiarity with installation procedures, cabling, and troubleshooting.
Team Leadership & Oversight:
- Lead a team of IT installation technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance monitoring to ensure successful deployments.
- Assign tasks, monitor work progress, and resolve any technical issues encountered during installation.
- Ensure team members adhere to safety protocols, quality standards, and federal security requirements.
Installation & Configuration:
- Oversee the installation and configuration of IT infrastructure, including desktops, laptops, servers, networking equipment, and peripheral devices.
- Ensure all systems are properly configured, connected, and optimized for use in federal environments.
- Work with vendors to install and configure software applications, ensuring compatibility with federal systems and compliance with security standards.
- Conduct site surveys to assess installation requirements.
- Determine optimal hardware placement and connectivity.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure all installations comply with federal regulations, including IT security standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST), and other industry best practices and quality standards.
- Perform quality assurance checks during and after installation to ensure functionality, performance, and user requirements are met.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Create and maintain accurrate records of installed hardware, configurations, and technical specifications.
- Prepare reports on project progress and completion.
- Prepare status reports and documentation for project progress and completion, stakeholders, highlighting progress, issues, and solutions.
- Update and maintain inventory records of installed hardware and software.
- Document installation processes, configurations, and any changes to ensure proper tracking and compliance.
Troubleshooting & Support:
- Troubleshoot any installation issues related to hardware, software, or network connectivity, providing resolutions or escalating as needed.
- Work with the help desk and technical support teams to ensure issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Provide post-installation support and assist in the transition to operational support teams.
- Risk Management:
- Identifying potential risks related to hardware deployment.
- Developing contingency plans to address unforseen issues.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervising installation technicians and coordinating their activities.
- Ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Security Awareness:
- Understanding security coniderations during hadwared installation
- Implementing measures to protect sensitive data and systems.
- Customer Service Orientation:
- Interacting with end-users during installations.
- Adressing and concerns or issues promptly.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management:
- Collaborate with hardware vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of hardware, adherance to specifications, as well as to address any installation-related concerns.
- Maintain effective communication with federal agency stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals, expectations, and requirements.
- Assist in the negotiation and procurement of IT equipment and services as needed.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (such as computer science, information technology, or business administration) is often required.
- 5 to 8 years' experience in managing IT installations, deployment, or infrastructure projects.
- Certifications PMP and/or ITIL. Must be current and have valid certification numbers.
Additional Requirements:
- In-depth knowledge of IT systems, infrastructure, and software development
- Must have experience managing teams of 25-30 people.
- Familiarity with government regulations, compliance, and security standards (e.g., , NIST)
- Strong leadership abilities to guide teams, resolve conflicts, and make strategic decisions.
- Effective communication with stakeholders, team members, and senior management.
- Budgeting and financial oversight skills to effectively manage the contract
- Ability to allocate resources efficiently and track expenses.
