Job Summary

The Melo-Cardenas Lab is a new research laboratory seeking a motivated Research Technologist 2 with a bachelor's degree in biology or other relevant scientific area. At our lab, you'll work with genetically engineered mouse models, human samples, and cutting-edge technology to uncover how inflammation drives myeloid blood cancers. You'll gain hands-on experience with advanced techniques like flow cytometry, cell sorting, and genomics. We're not just about research; we're about growth, yours and ours. Specific Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain stock solutions
  • Order and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment
  • Maintain overall laboratory order, regulatory compliance, and inventory
  • Perform basic molecular biology techniques, including plasmid preparation, viral production and transduction, isolation of RNA and DNA, western blot, immunoprecipitation, PCR, qPCR, flow cytometry
  • Manage mouse colonies including breeding, genotyping, and isolation and characterization of hematopoietic cells
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the laboratory
  • Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Demonstrated laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions as required by research protocols.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including spreadsheets and basic computations.
  • Attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Manual dexterity.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)

  • Previous lab experience

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, Knowledge, and abilities)

  • Wet bench and animal work

This position may be ideal for:

  • College or master's graduates with laboratory experience who want to build a strong research experience, including authorships on publications, as they pursue further education. You'll have the chance to present your work at departmental meetings and attend national scientific conferences, where you can also showcase your research.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $19.89-$24.86 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
