Job Description
Role Summary:

The Terracon Pittsburgh office is hiring a mid-to-senior level Hydrology and Hydraulics (H&H) Engineer to be responsible for developing our H&H practice group, managing projects, and performing water resources engineering and consulting services for a broad array of environmental projects and clients. This may include performing and/or leading engineering analysis, calculations and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. The role will identify, evaluate, and recommend risk strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, prepare applicable permit applications, risk assessments and technical documents including proposals, reports and regulatory agency correspondence. This may also include design of systems and environmental protection plans, applying sound engineering principles, and being able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may include a variety of environmental-related work including ecological and natural resource field surveys, green stormwater management, and site planning and permitting.

  • Design dam projects and perform safety inspections
  • Analyze sediment transport
  • Investigate water resources
  • Process wetland and waterway permits
  • Assess and restore watersheds
  • Design AMD remediation
  • Assist with grant applications and management
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Provide and lead continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor and promote quality standards and practices.
  • Provide consistent quality standards on project and proposal delivery.
  • Career level, fully competent environmental engineering professional.
  • Independently performs a variety projects or selected segments of larger projects.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work.
  • Work closely with senior-level project managers to gain additional project management experience for more complex and larger projects.
  • May devise new approaches to problems encountered.
  • May serve as a team leader in medium projects and mentor junior level scientists/engineers.
  • Perform complex scientific analyses on projects of own discipline.
  • May attend on and off-site client meetings.
  • Implement technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
  • Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects including quality control review of proposals written by others.
  • Evaluate complex laboratory and field data and assemble in written reports.
  • Work under the supervision of a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer
Requirements:
  • Pennsylvania Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or related degree.
  • Minimum 5-8 years' experience.
  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
