Job Description
For candidates looking to advance their career in Geophysics. Terracon is growing and hiring a near-surface mid-level Geophysicist in our Winter Park, Florida office! Our Winter Park office utilizes a comprehensive range of near-surface geophysical technologies in support of geologic, groundwater, environmental, engineering, and materials testing investigations, including utility location. This position is for a geoscientist who will be responsible to perform non-invasive geophysical surveys to assist in mapping and characterizing the subsurface. You will assist in defining survey objectives, designing surveys, performing data collection, performing quality control on data, analyzing the geophysical data, and provide interpretation of the results. These results are incorporated into the planning, design, renovation, and construction of vital infrastructure such as roads, tunnels, airports, landfills, water supplies, and other facilities; the assessment of environmental conditions; and the evaluation of earth resources. . Geophysics is a growing field that supports all four of Terracon's service lines.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Mid-level, experienced Geophysicist responsible for conducting near-surface geophysical surveys and making recommendations for systems design on medium sized projects with a variety of complexity.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in the data collection of some or all of the following geophysical methods:
    • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR),
    • Time Domain Electromagnetics (TDEM),
    • Frequency Domain Electromagnetics (FDEM),
    • Seismic (MASW and SRT),
    • Electrical Resistivity (Tomography and 4 pin),
    • Magnetics, and others.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in data processing, and interpreting geophysical data using one or more methods.
  • The candidate should be proficient in Excel, Power Point, Surfer, and have excellent communication and writing skills to complete a task in a timely fashion.
  • The candidate should have a good general knowledge of various geophysical equipment and survey limitations.
  • Participates with senior Geophysicists on large, more complex projects.
  • Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection from start to completion.
  • Ability to properly direct, manage and supervise field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities. Management experience is a plus, but not a requirement.
  • The candidate should be a good communicator and work independently or in a group setting.
  • The ideal candidate should be well organized and capable of overseeing the accurate collection and managing of field data to completion.
  • Responsible for compiling written proposals to clients for both small and large projects.
  • Evaluates moderately complex geophysical data and assembles in written reports.
  • May serve as team member or lead in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
  • Capable of overseeing work performed by field-level Geophysicists and willing to train and direct others as needed.
  • Capable of working in the field independently from project start to completion.
  • Willingness to learn and help develop others.
  • The candidate should be able to travel to various project locations across Florida and willing to perform overnight stay if needed.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum 4-6 years' experience.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
  • Willingness to travel.
